Freddy's v. O'Connors Redux
Subject: Freddy's v. O'Connors Redux

Freddy's and O'Connor's, the rival dive bars joined at the hip flask and situated both on and off Dean Street, played their second game of the 2005 season last Sunday. If this pace continues, the teams will have played a full 162-game season by mid-July 2059.
The O'Connor's squad was in high spirits, not only from the consumption of high spirits, but from the unveiling of the new O'Connor's awning. Although some preservation-minded locals were sorry to see the large gray cinder blocks which had formerly announced O'Connor's presence covered over by the large black awning, many others were glad to see O'C's awning signal the end of the no- sign- or- tiny-sign trend among so many recently opened watering holes. The new O'C's awning, with its mammoth white script visible from outer space, was plainly meant to dull the apparent advantage formerly held by Freddy's and its green awning full of odd drawings meant to distinguish it from a Korean deli.
Freddy's, however, unveiled their new screaming fire engine red "Freddy's 2005" t-shirts. These were accessorized nicely with their red plastic cups. The game was a see-saw contest with both teams unable to dominate or catch a fly ball. A group of football players added an extra obstacle for the fielding team as the footballers' red zone coincided with our left field. Freddy's also brought their mascots, the Alien and the Krispy Krocodile, and the mascots raced to first base following the 7th awning stretch.
Freddy's pulled away in the top of the 8th and 9th on clutch hitting by Lex Marsh and Antoine "the Flying Frenchman" Rodeghiero, who were named game co-MVP's by Freddy's captain Pat O'Shea. The final score was Freddy's 19 and O'C's 13 or 14. Both squads repaired to Freddy's for the hanging of the Large Blue Bra by the MVP's and some post-game drinks.

Subject: Shameless plug for my favorite bar.
Pat's a daring guy for sliding in a public park. You can find out how daring this Monday night, as he hosts his twice-monthly Comedy Night at Freddy's. Always fun. -
Oops, that was JamesonVandy plugging for Freddy's. Dunno why I wasn't logged in. :P

Subject: Give me draught!
This is sort of off-topic, but what's the deal with O'Connors? What's with their aversion to draught beer? Bottled Guiness is for home consumption only. I've been there a few times--forgetting everytime when I agreed to go there, that they only have bottles--and was pretty underwhelmed considering the other options around the 'hood.
Does anyone on this board prefer O'Connor's to Freddy's (or for that matter, Soda)? -
Freddy's is my overwhelming fave, thanks to the odd stuff on the left hand TV, and the daily interesting stuff in the back room (usually live music). If it's draft beer you're after, Soda's a better choice. O'C's is useful if you want another option that's open 'til the wee hours.
The wee hours thing is moot for me, as I'll largely be a homebody until after the marathon.
Howdy, Stranger!
