  • You're right, way too serious.

That said, I am serious about drinking in the neighborhood, which is why I hesitated to vote for Sepia, but objectively, its the best place - great atmosphere, great vibes, great bar (the counter you sit in front of) and decent prices. Its only been around for a minute and I've only had a few drinks there.

Soda bar is the usual because its close and always relaxed.

Indigo is a favorite, but too often dead.

I've had too many drinks on too many Christmas days at Mooneys to slam it, because that used to be all there was and I'm on a dart plaque, but the atmosphere there just ain't what it used to be.

I regret never having had a drink at Ripple and if I make it to January, will make a New Year's resolution.

What else is there? Half? Overpriced and closed.

    Beast? Neat iconography.

Freddy's? I'll definitely miss it and its PBR, but nostalgia only goes so far.

The counter at Sepia actually comes from an old bar on Washington and Sterling that the owners salvaged. The nostagia of that history is excellent.

Ripple has the same thing going on.
  • Daily News reporters on Pacific? I thought it was just the printing presses etc... And "Japs"? Sure thing.
  • I think Sepia's vibe is "ok" at best. I hate the kharma poems in the bathroom. I love the creative writing in Freddy's that ranges from racist cops to Bugs Bunny characters. The music in Freddy's is much more original and bartenders still play mix tapes or CD's that customers give them. Beer is much cheaper at Freddy's. Everyone talks to each other and usually about interesting shit. Finally, they stay open until the dawn and call you a car service if you don't have a number. Perfect for nights to fucked up to stumble home and tear up at the sunny glare. Finally, the place has interesting shit to look at everywhere.

Really? What was that place called? Page One or something? That was the coolest realtor in all of Brooklyn when they opened it back up. I was sad to see it live, ever so shortly as a drugstore.

That's the spot. The drug store moved up the block as you may already know.
  • Page One or something?
Wierd to quote myself... but makes me wonder if that place was an old Daily News hangout or something? Too bad the whole realtor/drugstore/vacant again (sans bar) thing didn't happen - it would be great to re-open the place as page six!
  • I'd say 1, is Freddy's. 2, Ripple and it's a tough 2, but I only have a year or so left at #1, 3 would have to be Mooney's b/c it is so ordinary and has the Clash on the juke. Also, Ben can pour cool things into the foam of a Guinness.
