New cameras at Crown Street and Schenectady Aves

Anyone know who is responsible for this? The dont look like police issue and are outfitted with mics.

I wonder if they are related to these, at Albany and Union:

"Operation ‪#‎SafeShopper‬ is my new partnership between the @NYPD and local ‪#‎civic‬ organizations, through which I am funding an innovative deployment of ‪#‎securitycamera‬ ‪#‎technology‬ to assist with the investigation of local crimes. I had an opportunity to see it firsthand with Rabbi Eli Cohen at Mr Clean It, a dry cleaning business in ‪#‎CrownHeights‬ taking part alongside establishments in ‪#‎Brownsville‬, ‪#‎ClintonHill‬, ‪#‎ConeyIsland‬, ‪#‎FortGreene‬, and ‪#‎ParkSlope‬. This is a smart way to advance our pursuits of ‪#‎justice‬ and ‪#‎crime‬ ‪#‎deterrence‬, all while promoting safer ‪#‎shopping‬experiences that boost local ‪#‎economic‬ activity."

  • Maybe - but there aren't any stores at Crown and Schenectady.
  • #HashtagOverload
  • Eric Adams has stated he wants to be Mayor.   Unclear if he will run against DeBlasio.

Returning the cameras, I believe it is legal to have cameras with mics mounted on private property.  No special permission or warning to the public required.
  • The cameras are in the traffic light posts. I have pics but am unable to upload.

They were too big in their orig size.   I made them smaller.   Brooklynian likes pics less than about 300k

BTW, you may be seeing part of the 71st Pct's Shotspotter program.

Here are the basics of Shotspotter:
  • Talked to someone in the 71st Precinct Community Affairs Department. They are DOT issue cameras.  They were put up to conduct a survey of the intersection.

  • So the mics would be used to measure noise, not record conversations?
  • We may never know. They cameras were removed sometime during the night.
  • Eric Adams is now having lots put up:

The Orthodox Jewish vote is a great one to capture..
  • Oh of course ,in prep for the parade
  • As I understand this program, businesses are given city funding to install cameras outside their stores.

I assume it is cheaper than the city actually operating the cameras, and gives the city similar access to the recordings.
  • Here's a recent crime caught on similar cameras.

More cameras would equal better coverage...
