Basically the little ramen location is moving to the big bar location.

  • I hope they combine both menus. The chuko was too limited for me and some of the bar chuko were really good.
  • with the onslaught of new residents coming from the condos, i think a 24 hour diner would do really well on the corner spot chuko is vacating and fill a need for the neighborhood. there's no simple, late night food option in the area (mcdonalds doesnt count)
  • I suspect that a traditional diner would not be able to sustain itself.

Hence, I suspect that we will get a "diner in disguise" that is part of a national chain and serves profitable alcohol:    Applebees, TGI Fridays, etc.

  • The old Chuko space is much, much to small for a national chain.  Anything like that will end up over on Flatbush or in Atlantic Terminal where there are already a few of those types of restaurants.
  • I think we might get on, or near Vanderbilt.  ...but, I agree, not in the former Chuko space.

I fear it could become home to merely eight Chase ATMs.

The landlord is not presently disclosing the asking price for 552 Vanderbilt.  (typo in title of thread lists it as 522, whoops)

  • there's a guy who lives in that building who i've interacted with that i think may be the landlord. if im correct on that, that space may be vacant for a long time because he's off his rocker. not quite right in the head.
  • Given the location, I'd be willing to rent from someone who is not quite right for the right price.

...I think this location will find a tenant.

  • ive heard that he wont do long term leases, which may discourage people. if i was a prospective tenant, a red flag may be that in the original article for this post, chuko states that the kitchen equipment is end of life and falling apart, but on the 'for rent' sign at the location it lists 'fully equipped kitchen'. hope whoever ends up there does their due diligence.

Plew say meme chose as the foodies say! For years the departed Chuko area (maybe the very building?) had  a DIner (and alledgedly...the home of a major drug exchange/fence spot. A stolen handmade clock of mine passed through there in the early 80's.)  But it had good coffee if one was brave enough to enter.
