Anyone EQ2?

Non hermit anti-geekers, please disregard.

Just curious, since I've seen a few people here express enjoyment playing RPGs, I was wondering if anyone is a EQ2 player. I was big into EQ1 and just decide to give the new one a try. If you are, let me know your server and your toon's name and i'll send you a /tell and maybe we can kill something.

  • Is that EverQuest? As in EverCrack?
  • Correct...EverCrack it is, but the new one. EQ2 came out about midway last year.
  • i'm easily addicted to video games... i found soooo much of my time disappearing so i went cold turkey- i've been clean for 8 years.

i'm afraid to touch EQ2... but i really want to...
  • I just bought it. My coworker who was also big into EQ1 started it and got me hooked into trying it again. I played the first one for a couple of years.

It's really the best MMORPG out there. A weird story... I use to have a girlfriend who's brother lived in Cali. We emailed and IM'd a lot because we both shared a lot of interests. After I broke up with his sister, I lost contact until about 2 1/2 years later, I bumped into him in a town in EQ. We recognized each others screen names and were both like WTF? For over a year, I hung out in-game with him. We are now very good friends, but both of us for different reasons stopped EQing. I'll have to get him EQ2ing now. :)

One guy i know nets about $400/month selling items in-game. Real american cash. No lie.

It's a weird thing and raises some interesting ideas about what is "worth" and money. In EQ, these items take time. Hours, weeks, months on continuous effort to acquire or to develop skills necessary to create them, much like one works at a job to make a living or goes to school to learn a trade. People are paying money not just for the item, but for the time and effort that went into obtaining or crafting it. So, in that light, it starts to make sense, at least to some people. I mean, c'mon, it's nickname is evercrack. :P

I once read an article that stated if Norrath, the continent of EQ were to be counted as a real country it's GNP would put it as the 13th richest nation in the world. I've also read articles about EQ sweatshops in Asia and India where they have people farming, questing and creating goods to then sell on E-Bay. Screwed up.

My friend sold one character on E-Bay for about $400. Now he runs 4-5 accounts and bots several characters (controls them with a script to perform preset automatic tasks) and farms crap to sell. He makes good money. I'd never do it though. I don't really agree with the practice.

Oh dude, I just wrote all that didn't I? I'm such a fucking geekazoid. :D
  • I once literally spent an entire summer playing SimCity 2000--on a computer that had 3MB of RAM, a 20MHz processor, and no internet connection. Because of my obvious susceptibility to games like that--no matter how glacially they proceed  --I feel I need to stay away from The Sims and especially EQ. Too bad because it sounds fun...
  • I've been struggling with an addiction to the Sid Meyers Civilization series of games for years! I can play Civ III or Civ Call To Power endlessly, even without online opponents.
