My best friend in the whole world moved to nyc. He has never seen a northern fall (or snow!) as hes been above washington DC and never lived above NC. I havnt been here for a fall in 11 years, so I dont know how the trees are looking.
Would this be a good weekend to go to the park? I know its a bit early but next week its going to be pretty chilly and I dont want the leaves the drop and to miss it. Help me!


OH and which is better to go- central or prospect? HONESTLY- no bias!

    Olmstead himself preferred Prospect Park--the landscape is more natural and less manicured. But the leaves never look that great to me in the city. They seem to turn brown and pathetically fall off. Why not do a day trip up north like to Dia in Beacon or Hyde Park or something??

    I happen to think Prospect Park is nicer because if you are disappointed with the park you can always walk into the Brooklyn Botanic Garden which is never disappointing. I hope you guys have fun wherever you go!

    PP has just started to turn, but the horizon line is not blazing yet. The grove between the picnic house and the 3rd St entrance, inside the drive, on the PPW side of the park has some good reds and yellow and ernge.

    (Daily report on the park is the bonus of walking the dog. :D )

    I'd recommend a trip up the Hudson on MetroNorth. The trip up to Poughkeepsie is beautiful - right on the Hudson, views of the Palisades, and the color should be great a bit further up. You can always stop off in Cold Spring for lunch or Beacon for the Dia.

    If you have a car, I would recommend you go up Rt 17 in Orange County, NY, maybe I-87, stop off in New Paltz, NY and go to Mohonk Mountain House for an early dinner.
