Police Activity at Franklin Ave & Eastern Parkway

I was at the Franklin Ave stop at Franklin & Eastern Parkway around 10pm. The south exit was blocked by police tape. Once above ground the area in front of the corner bodega and golden crust were also blocked off and there was a decent amount of police presence - although for south of eastern parkway not a lot of presence.

Only thing I found was from NYC scanner. Said there was a shooting around 9pm. Anyone else see this?

    I live near by and believe I heard two gun shots around 9:00 pm and then heard lots of sirens coming to the area and saw the south east Franklin ave metro entrance taped off.

    I searched online for reports of what happened, but didn't see anything in the news or anywhere really and have experienced the same issue in the past.  Does anyone know of a good place to learn about these events?  Has anyone else noticed that shootings in CH seem to not get news coverage?

    Shootings in which people do not die rarely receive coverage unless they occur in areas where shootings are unusual.

    ...or involve unusual victims

    @Rick656 I live nearby as well. Ive also noticed the there is rarely any news coverage about shootings in our area and I haven't found any reliable sources except for this forum. I do know they're mostly gang related. Wish I had more info to offer.

    The area has some pretty entrenched drug activity.

    I'm not sure whether the Franklin Family (sometimes known as the Lincoln Family) is pro or Anti Crips.   



    Let's just say we hang out in different circles.

    Has anyone notice the sketchy looking dude who who wears very dirty baggy jeans and huge winter jacket and seems to strolls back and forth at night in the middle of winter on the north side of Eastern Parkway between bedford and franklin.  I pretty sure I saw him wearing a blue bandana over his face (crips color) and may have said something to me when I walked by, but I just kept walking.  Is this just a homeless guy or a member of the crips patrolling the block?  

    Wonder if he has any connection to the shooting since it seems to have been crips/gang related.  I know this has been discussed on a different thread and is a real hot topic, but if he was stopped and frisk my guess is they'd find something and and/or he'd stop patrolling the area.

    The local gangs are very focused in their activity. It usually takes the form of: 1) Low level drug sales to finance their other pursuits; 2) Making music/videos touting their expertise at 1) and highlighting how much better they are than other local gangs; 3) Attracting girls based on their success at 1) and 2); and 4) Fighting with other local gangs as a result of 1), 2), and 3). 

    In my experience they are not focused on the protection of property for the sake of protection - otherwise known as "this is our block, what are you doing here". The gentleman you describe sounds like someone who is has mental health issues, possibly someone who either formerly lived here, or is in some form of shelter or supportive housing here.

    In my experience, many of our local street level drug dealing positions are held by men under age 35.

    The positions require a certain degree of health.

    ...whereas as our local users tend to vary more in terms of age.

    Note: Users often do not stray far from their sources. In addition to being able to get drugs nearby, there is also a bullet resistant liquor store.

    There's been a cop at the corner of President and Franklin for the past week now just hanging out in the car.  The sirens are active though silent.  Not sure what this does determent-wise but better than nothing.

    If there are people we see on the street and we know they are drug dealers, surely the police know as well, so why aren't they arresting them?

    Booklaw is correct on an individual level.

    However, I hold the perspective that as long as there is a strong demand for drugs on these blocks, the efforts of the police department won't be real effective.

    The answer often lies in forces far more powerful than the NYPD.

    ...only then will supply go away.

    @yesbrooklyn is right. Police presence has been there almost around the clock recently. Waste of tax payers money IMO. They consistently park the wrong way on a one way street with high beams on and no traffic stops - not that I think those make a difference. Ive been getting severe looks from them when I pass by daily. Also I feel safer when my usual street crew is out compared to auxiliary police.
