Owl Thistle moved south of EP, and is now closing. But Subways are still here!

Personally I only stopped in because it was convenient on my walk home from the subway, will be interesting to see how it does south of EP.

833 Franklin, 900 sq ft, 4k a month.
On Franklin near Union

We jabbered about this property previously on this thread:
http://www.brooklynian.com/forums/topic/mj-restaurant -
From their Facebook feed:
The news is out...Owl & Thistle will be moving 4 blocks away to 833 Franklin to a bigger and better space! Opening won't be until January 2014 and we'll be at our current location (720 Franklin btwn Park & Sterling) until after the New Year!
-
They're not moving because it is bigger and better. they're moving because the landlord doubled the rent.
-
Would (can) someone please remind me what they sell?
-

Correct. And, when you think about it, they probably first opened on Franklin Avenue because they could not afford the rent in a higher priced area, like Park Slope.
In my mind, the real question is "Is the area around their destination CURRENTLY as able and interested in buying their products as those 720 Franklin were and have been?"
yuppie scum--
The seem to sell gift items. Housewarming gifts, specifically. -

http://www.crainsnewyork.com/data-lists/real-estate-deal-watch/details/12/2930809From the article: "Brokers say part of the uptick in rent is attributed to the new branding of the northern strip.
"They're calling it Prospect Heights even though it's technically all Crown Heights," said Kristina Triglia, the CPEX Real Estate broker"
Now that's annoying.

Today was their last day at their old location. They plan to reopen South of EP later this week.

Here's the transformation of a nearby storefront, 831 Franklin

@yesbrooklyn states:
Owl and Thistle is closing

-
Confirmed:"40% off Closing Sale Continues all long weekend, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, 11-6 pm. Antique furniture, sewing machines, and more are all for sale too! #goodbye #goingoutwithabang"
-
Oh, snap! It's payday too! Whoooo hooo! I may opt to go home via the IRT today.
I'm sorry to see them go.Feel free to speculate what will come in its place. -
I think the location is ripe for a Subway sandwich location, but do not know if the landlord would allow food.
....sometimes Subway can occupy spaces that others can't because no venting is required. -
Yech...I'm sure it's a long shot but I would love to see a place like bierkraft -- sandwiches and beer. Or at least a bottle shop. The number of places to buy a six pack on the south EP is dwindling.
-
Covenhoven isn't too far away and has a pretty stellar bottle and can selection.
-
I came in on the last day. I had stopped by on Saturday afternoon, but the shopkeeper had closed early to go to the Women's March in Manhattan.Fortunately I was able to score some yarn, some double pointed needles and a really good deal on a crafting lamp. I'm sad to see it go.Not much going on on that stretch of Franklin Avenue anymore.
-
Subway couldn't make it in PLG; I doubt that they'd do any better in Crown Heights.
-
There actually used to be a Subway between Union and President, but it closed. I'm not sure things have changed to the extent that a Subway would be any more viable now.
-
Did the Subway at Nostrand and Empire close? Or was it another that closed, Bob?
-
dac545 - There was a Subway at Flatbush Avenue and Beekman Place. That place is still vacant, as far as I know. The Subway on the corner of Nostrand and Empire is still there, I believe.
-
Funny how this has turned into a Subway thread.... : - ) I'll pile on. There is a Subway on Bedford and Crown (next to MEC). It's been there for a few years. It's big by Subway standards with plenty of seating.
-
Well, the area's not hurting for a subway
