Are we sure it's replacing Phat Alberts or utilizing space in the same building?

I saw another article that said it was going to take over the Phat Albert space, but can't find it.Charter schools are not small, so it is going to need a lot of space...

@ whynot_31 - Charter schools often function with little space, when they're co-located. My girlfriend is a librarian at a middle school charter in Harlem, and all three grades are housed on the third floor of a DOE school.

Did a little digging and seems the same extended family - Srour family - owns the Bond Bakery building, Ph/Fat Albert stores, Brooklyn lollipop import company (the company that owns the bed stuy building where the coworking space just signed for a second location) and a few others (such as 81 willoughby). This assumes brooklynites with the last name "srour" are all connected.

I'm not sure since I've never walked in. I don't know if their current space was part of the original store or used for random storage. I wouldn't be surprised if the later. -

good riddance. in this case, the owner of the building owns the business, so it's not a matter of some tenant being pushed out. and it's not like this area is hurting for more discount stores.

I would love it if a Jack's opened in the area. As noted above, a charter school is already on the way for the Phat Albert space.

Phat Alberts just moved everything into the northern part of the store (previously the apparel was separated by a small set of stairs from the rest of the store). I noticed a few months back that they stopped restocking (they were great for cheap vinyl shower curtains!) and then they completely cleared out the apparel section and consolidated the linens to move the apparel in there. Last I was in there about 2 weeks ago and it was almost bare bones. Most of the items were gone and everything was super marked down. They called it a liquidation sale and a few locals I've spoken with were under the impression that it wasn't the end of old Albert's but I fear it may be. I may try to get in there today and see if there are any cheap glassware, but once they officially shutter, I'll have to trek further down Flatbush for good liquidator stores
I just saw an article stating that Starbucks was moving in to the Fat Alberts location in Bushwick (or was it BedStuy?), so it seems their fates are sealed -
@rararuuu - Woodhull is in Bed-Stuy. On the PLG FB page, someone claimed that the owner of Phat Albert's is retiring.

I've seen an announcement stating that "BKLYN Marketplace," or something of the sort, will be taking phat alberts place. It appears to bd cobranded with the Srour's coworking space in the building -- BKLYN Commons - and targeting a slightly more affluent or trendy crowd than phat Albert's core demographic.

Yes, it seems like it will be targeting the folks who use the coworking place. Offering them lunch and small portion groceries.

I peeked in on Saturday. (I would have gone in, but I don't like checking my bags.) It looks like a remixed version of Phat Albert - just more streamlined.

Shopped there a week or so ago, they are still using the Phat Albert bags! Maybe all is not lost

This incarnation feels like a streamlined Phat Albert, with a different name. The space feels less cluttered.
