So long, farewell, it is time to say good night...

It'd be nice if there were another Brooklynian platform that would allow for people to keep their (anonymous) screennames, and didn't mine personal data as greedily as Facebook. Oh, well.
-
Indeed. Facebook does not allow threads that track a project (or phenomena) over time, and does not provide the anonymity that Brooklynian did. ...however, it has become almost impossible to attract users to a standalone site. Brooklynian had a great run, but now no longer serves a need or audience.
-
I am so sad to lose my pseudo-anoymousness.

@crownheightster You don't have to lose your anonymity if someone were to start a disqus channel (HINT!, @whynot_31 ) or join an existing disqus channel like Gothamissed.
-
-
@whynot_31 Do you think there'd be enough of a demand for a Brooklynian Disqus channel? I can create one.
-
I don't think there is enough demand. ...Brooklynian was successful largely as a result of people's fascination with the technology, and a desire to get help navigating a "new" neighborhood. Now, such wants no longer exist. ....it had a great run.
-
I'm sorry to see Brooklynian closing shop, but I remember when a new bar was worthy of discussion on this site.
Now our new bars get covered regularly in the New Yorker (thanks, Helen Rosner).
Too bad the continuation of this site is a Facebook group. -
For a while, we also had a lot of posters who felt that "we" could (and should) collectively use our "power" to change this neighborhood in positive ways that retained its character AND its long term residents. They didn't seem to understand how little "we" had in common with each other and how we too were subject to the laws of supply and demand. ...they failed to understand that Means + Preferences = Business Mix. ...and that housing is a business, just like bars, grocery stores, restaurants, etc.

Okay.
For those of you who are interested, you are invited to discuss NYC-centric issues over at https://disqus.com/home/channel/gothamissed/. -
The somewhat-quarterly neighborhood beer drinking events will likely continue. ...they will be advertised in the large Facebook group that serves Western Crown Heights: https://www.facebook.com/groups/172188886172815/ ....not the very small Brooklynian Facebook group.

Though I seldom posted, I enjoyed this site for many years. I will miss the updates on properties, the prospecting of new watering holes, and keeping up-to-date on change within this great county. Thank you.

It has been fun posting almost 30,000 comments on this thing, and has allowed me to build an admittedly odd skill set and knowledge base.
