My friend that works at Sweetwater in Williamsburg used to host Children's Movie Night every Sunday, but the new owners stopped it. Too bad--it was fun fun fun.

And if I had seen that quote first, I would have TOTALLY answered without Googling. I loooooooooooove me some Neverending Story. And Princess Bride, and Labyrinth, and all that jazz.

And speaking of Muppets, did anyone else ever see that weird muppet Christmas movie where the toys come alive when you're out of the room and die if you see them moving?

This guy I work with just went to the Bklyn public library and rented a projector and a reel of Raiders of the Lost Ark.... thought that was pretty cool AND its FREE!!! 8)

My wife (EmilyM) has been chiding me for not paying more attention to the board, and so I am catching up with this pop-culture-heavy post. I have seen neither The Dark Crystal nor The Neverending Story. But here's what I do know...

As a Casey Kasem–listening geek in 1984, I remember well the Top 40 pop single "Neverending Story," which was recorded by blond-streaked-mullet-having pretty boy Limahl, former lead singer for...wait for it...Kajagoogoo.

As far as Muppet movies go, I own the original trilogy on DVD. No shit. I think Great Muppet Caper – like Empire Strikes Back, Superman II and Spider-Man 2 – upholds the truism that the second film in a series is usually the best. That said, The Muppet Movie is excellent and Muppets Take Manhattan (like Return of the Jedi) is inferior but still fine work. I have never seen and have no intention of seeing the travesties that are the post–Henson, Sr. movies.

I watched Kidd Video a bit, but it was no Great Space Coaster.

Aquaman has been the butt of jokes for years, most recently on South Park, where the "SuperBestFriends" called him "Sea-Man" (and then paused to snicker at the puerile cum joke). I read an Entertainment Weekly article recently that pointed out the Entourage/Aquaman plot thread, which the show's writers chose for its parodic potential; the article pointed out, however, that Aquaman is actually a classic character in the DC (or was it Marvel?) stable and, despite his limited powers, has been the butt of jokes for too long. It is pointed out that Batman's powers are nearly as limited, he is no older of a character, and he too was once mocked as campy and dated. Let the Aquaman renaissance begin!

Being a major wuss as a child, I avoided most boy pursuits – Matchbox cars, action figures, TV shows about action figures – and stuck to Bugs Bunny cartoons and board games. In the early '80s, I actually collected Parker Brothers games, which were housed in distinctive, long, flat boxes; I had the standards like Monopoly and Clue, but my favorite back in the day (say, '82) was a bizarre volcanic-island fantasy game called Survive! I've even made Emily play it.

If we go ahead with Nostalgia Movie Night, I have several DVDs to offer, including the three aforementioned Muppet movies, 10 discs of Muppet Show episodes, a few Charlie Brown holiday specials and Schoolhouse Rock!

Cool! Everyone loves Namor! In fact, he was around before Aquaman. Aquaman was DC's answer to The Submariner.
