City provided garbage cans and lamp posts? — Brooklynian

City provided garbage cans and lamp posts?

How can I get more information about obtaining the following from the city: garbage cans, lamp posts for brownstones, and reminder signs to curb your dog?

Am I being overly optimistic? :)

  • The only part of this I can answer is re: "curb your dog" signs. Those are handled by Dept. of Sanitation. There's probably a request form on their web site. Go to NYC.gov and then look for "city agencies" button on left side for links. Or you could call 311.

As to trash cans and street lights? The city doesn't provide cans for private residences. You can get the recycling stickers from sanitation.

And street lights? Is your block missing one? You just want another in front of your house? Are you taliking about a lite at the curb? You've lost me here.
  • Thanks for the info. I went to the Department of Sanitation website, but did not see anything about the dog signs. I'll call 311.

In regards to the lamp posts, I'm talking about the black ones that are typically in the front of brownstones. At my block association meeting, they talked about when they received them from the city, but not all of the houses have them. Just curious if I could also get one.

I also learned during the meeting that if your block signs a petition, the city will provide 2 garbage cans, with tops, for the residents. Does anyone have more information?

    Thanks!
