I remember doing that when I was younger we used to call it "snapping" that included mother jokes, your so ugly jokes, etc. That would be hysterical!

Not sure if this is exactly what you mean, but some other boards have an area called the "troll cage" (or whatever) where they move all threads that get really nasty. If people want to go argue with each other, they can do it there without annoying everyone else, no holds barred.

To effect that here, we'd have to split the "bad" posts into a new thread, then move the new thread to the designated forum, leaving the "good" posts behind. Sadly, I don't think there would be any way to handle it if someone continued to make "bad" posts in the "good" thread.-->You can move threads from one forum to another, but I'm pretty sure you can't move posts from one thread to another. So if anyone continued to post "bad" stuff outside the designated area, I don't think we would, technologically speaking, have any recourse other than the deservedly-hated threat of deletion. The mods couldn't just copy-and-paste all the insulting posts into a designated threat, because then it would look like they were all posted by us! :shock:

But the biggest problem with this issue would be disagreement about which threads/posts deserved this treatment. I like the idea of allowing a free-for-all, and I like the idea of insulating people who just want to know where to get security gates from it, but I'm not sure how we'd do it.

I apologize for leading a thread (Italian Restaurants) askew to bicker with a guest. I don't really think I was out of line per se, but I suppose I could have just ignored the initial post and it's vitriol. This seems to be happening in just about every thread though, and it is undoubtedly affect DH's quality.

I just discovered DH several weeks ago and I consider DH and its board to be resourceful and useful. If you want to introduce this proposed kind of forum, be prepared for more guests who have nothing to add other than confusing sentence structure, rude responses, and idiotic 'your momma' jokes. Personally, I don't really care about being insulted, but I would hate for others to suppress legitimate on-topic ideas fear of being flamed by some dumb asshole who is either too lazy to register or enjoys hiding behind his anonimity.

The best snap I ever heard happened on a trolley in Philly.

It was 8.30 am, and these two women at the back were rehashing the weekend's antics. In voices far too loud for a Monday morning commute. One of them kept emphasizing how drunk she had been on saturday, over and over again.

Until this guy who was dressed for construction work turned around and said (to the delight of us all)-- "What are you talking about? You're so fat you can't afford to get drunk."

It was a "you're so poor", a "you're so fat", and a "you're an alcoholic" putdown. All in one.
