Leave Brooklyn?
Why answer someone's complaint about something with "Well you don't like xxxx then leave Brooklyn!" Brooklynites are world reknown kvetchers. I can't think of a single day passing without hearing someone complaining about something.
Brooklyn's a place that is changing constantly, neighborhoods are in constant flux. It has always been that way. No one group of people can claim ownership of a neighborhood and if they do they are in a for a rude awakening.
So defend your position, if you love ice cream trucks and Jay-Z at decibel 11 say so. If you want a stadium, great. But the love it or leave it mentality is not very conducive to discussion. I like this site because I love the neighborhood and I love to hear what other people are thinking and experiencing around the way. I love when people have a different opinion and take on things. I like people that just moved here from Wisconsin and are experiencing Brooklyn through fresh eyes. I like to hear about people that immigrated here from other countries and set up shop. I don't want this site, or the neighborhood, to become a newbies versus old-bes kindergarten fight. It seems that most people posting here fall into the newbies category and it would be cool if that could change, it would be good for the neighborhood.
PS this is not to say that some people should NOT leave Brooklyn, it is just to say that this is not the first solution that comes to mind.

Isa is referring to this post in the "Mr. Softee" thread: "QUIT BITCHING. IF U DON'T LIKE IT GET OUT OF BROOKLYN. WE DONT WANT PEOPLE LIKE YOU HERE ANYWAY"
I wouldn't make too much of it. This is the same guy who has posted "anonymously," 5 or 6 times, about the Damn Yuppies and how they are going to ruin Prospect Heights. It's a shame, because he is also capable of some interesting contributions ("where does PH end and CH begin", that anecdote about the fireman rescuing the bird from the tree, etc.) -
Hey! Don't negate me! Kidding. Anyway, it seems like it happens more often than that.

It's a common argument with any NYC gentrification argument. I'll totally cop to using it myself in frustration. I don't think they'll ever not be tension between old folks and the perceived interlopers. Especially when you feel like someone is insulting/destroying the place you've always been.
I'm new to Prospect Heights, but I passed through a lot when I was a kid, going to the library, museum, and Wing Wagon and such. But, I grew up in Brooklyn and Queens, went to HS in Manhattan. My folks are Brooklyn-born and raised too. It can get extremely disheartening times like these when it seems like the only housing being built are for those who can afford million dollar apartments and $20 veggies. So despite being a gentrifier probably according to the people in my building, I don't feel that way on the inside.
I do love this site because it's a common forum for everyone in the nabe and it's nice to hear what everyone else is thinking. -

Oh I totally agree. I've used it, too, probably on these very boards. I was trying to usher in a new age of reason.
I went to HS in Manhattan, too. I bet that not only are we on the same block but we went to the same High School. Did you go to Laguardia? I am hoping that I just had a psychic moment, but probably not. -

Nope. Hunter. -
Well said, Isa. Even though I've got my blood pressure up with some of my pro-Stadium posts, I love this board and the exhanges that occur on it.
Howdy, Stranger!
