Winter Off-Leash Hours to go in effect Wed, November 1st
in Prospect Park: Long Meadow, Nethermead and Peninsula will be open for off-leash activity beginning 5pm until 9am - including weekends

Now that it's dark at 6pm . . .
o well, I love winter off-leash evening hours.

What is "Peninsula" in Prospect Park?

  • If you walk on the path from long meadow to the nethermead, cross through the nethermead to the path that is off to the right and continue down to the lake you'll pass the peninsula on the left. It's the smallest of the three areas but there is another place for swimming although I don't think it is official.

The peninsula is usually pretty empty. I've also encountered a couple dogs there that are not very friendly. Some of the owners who want to let their dogs off leash but know they don't get along with others may take them there because there are so few other dogs. That said, it's not always the case, just something I've observed a couple times out of the few times I've been there.

Worth checking out but it's not my favorite. I guess the lake is nice but the lack of other dogs to play with puts it at the bottom of the list for me.
  • Thanks Ben!

The nethermead used to have a bad ass reputation, but I find it's a very low-key doggie set up now.

Today is also the last day to send public comments about off-leash to the hearing at the Dept of Health

get her one of the light up ones!

I got to get my girl some glow sticks to wear as necklaces. They look hilariously funny running around in the dark.
