Moving to Prospect Heights from Texas

edited November -1 in Prospect Heights
Hello Everyone, my name is Aaron, I recently got accepted into NYU's Graduate Program (SCPS) and look foward to moving into Prospect Heights in a few weeks. Unfortunately, I dont have time to move up and search for an apartment so I am doing everything over the net. I am considering a place located on 209 Underhill Ave., located between St. Johns Place and Lincoln Pl. (with a blue base). Can anyone inform me about the area or even better, the building? I look foward to any advice, thanks.

  • i think i know which building you mean; i've always admired it. it's a good location because there's a gym, some bars and restaurants, and of course the library / museum /park very nearby. i have noticed a lot of people tend to congregate outside that building in the warm weather, but not a bad lot or anything. on the other hand, lincoln place and st johns are rumored to have some noise and crime issues, though many folks on this board seem to get along just fine there

  • Are you a Fighting Owl?
  • hi neighbor - I'm 230 underhill, and really love it. lincoln place is kinda noisy sometimes, but I actually like all the activity (and it makes me feel safer at night to have a bit of buzz on the street as i waddle my preggers self home after sundown..).

PM me if you have any specific questions about the block, or need someone to water your plants :D
  • Isn't that building on the corner of St Johns and Underhill (between St Johns and Sterling)?
If so, you'll be across the street from me.
It's a great location. Short walk to everything- Library, Museum, GAP greenmarket, Park Slope, both subway stations.
There are always a bunch of people hanging out near that building, but I doubt you'll have any problems. Most people in the neighborhood are very friendly.

I've heard it helps if you skip through the neighborhood handing out cookies.
  • i live at 182. love the neighborhood. yes there are people hanging out near that building and several others, but everyone i've met seems incredibly friendly once you get to know them, and i second the notion that it makes me feel safer.

the only problem i've had is with cars. i've had three windows smashed in on sterling over the course of a year and a half or so.......
