How many cars use the CLUB on your block?

hmmm. . . you don't say?
-
The only time I've ever seen the club being used to stop theft is when I saw a car owner beating a would-be theif with it.
-
I'm sort of against the club in theory. I feel like it encourages a would-be thief to steel someone else's car, whereas lo-jack (if used by just a few) will discourage all car theft because the thief isn't sure that it's there and thus won't risk stealing any car.
At least in theory... -
the club encourages car theft? :?
-
I dont know about the club, but every ratty-ass car on my block has an alarm that goes off at 2:00am.....

Let's say it "re-directs" car theft away from a car with the club and to another car. -

You could say that about locking your doors as well. -

You could. I was making the distinction between a type of theft deterrent that redirects crime as opposed to one (like lo-jack) that really discourages it by increasing the risk of getting caught. The lo-jack idea makes everyone's car safer because the thief doesn't know who's car has it. -
what about
locking doors vs not locking doors.
i always hear people say "i don't lock the doors because its more expensive to replace a broken window/canvas top than whatever is stolen"
do you lock? -

Car alarms are bad enough, but car alarms on crappy cars are the worst.
There should be some kind of threshold below which you're not allowed to get a car alarm.
If your model car hasn't been stolen in the past 20 years, you can't get a car alarm.
If no one in their right mind would take your car, FOR FREE, you can't get a car alarm.
If the car alarm cost more than the value of the car, you can't get a car alarm.
