I reserve props for cultural producers, various other creative types, activists and academics.
On a side note, how come no one gives any respect to people with quantitative skills? Shouldn't math be up there with the other respected fields? Some of the most awesomely intelligent people I know are physicists, statisticians and engineers. I weekly sit in awe of such minds of Robert Merton and Myron Scholes. You may not have heard of these nobel laureates but their innovations benefited society a million times over. I therefore move to include math geeks into the elite enclave of the "acceptable" class of downtown Brooklynites. Can I get a witness?

It was an egregious omission, especially because my Dad was one of them. Math and science peeps are most definitely included in my collection of favorites. I really need to take the time to carefully craft and proofread my impulsive anonymous Brooklynian postings.I reserve props for cultural producers, various other creative types, activists and academics.

Fuck Justin Timberlake, I'm sweating YOU, boy. Flailey is dead wrong. Did you get that shit from Details (which makes you the last Details reader on earth)? Is it John Varvatos? Call my sidekick, we'll go out and get hella visceral.
OH YOU KNOW HOW WE DO UP BY THE PROMENADE, GIRLFRIEND!!
Better acks around, seriously. Six foot plus tall giant waterfront loft with three exposures and river views owning hard as a rock 169% true NYC player in on the scene here. I'll get visceral all over some freaks anytime, just holla back. Chumps will be standing around on Flatbush wondering who the hell that fly metrosexual kid with the perfect hair is. Like they always do.
Anyone steps to this and the mexicans will have to build a shrine complete with flowers and those tall glass candles. I'm repping all creative types in the 718 and i-bank fools can eat a fat one.
Bring a baggie, blue-shirts. You'll need it to carry your teeth home.

Didn't think so.
You cannot afford, deal.
Hahahaha. Nope, definitely can't afford, and don't care either. This online entity is pretty damn awe-inspiring, yet I reserve props for cultural producers, various other creative types, activists and academics.

Hmm .. interesting post. I'm brown .. work an an i-bank but am not a banker and neither do I want to be one. I even go to school part-time. Till I stumbled upon this amazing discussion, I was seriously considering moving to PH. But, now am thinking - its not such a good idea afterall. This is hostile ground and not very welcoming!! :?

Letting one silly discussion scare you off is -- well, silly. This is a pretty friendly neighborhood. You should look around some of the other topics, come walk around the area some to get some sense of what it's like, and talk to anyone you know who lives here. -
Thanks apollonia666. Your encouragement is well taken. I will pay the place a visit in the very near future. BTW (and I apologize since I've asked this elsewhere in the forum), hows the area - Prospect Pl and Classon ?

LMAO!!!
I just moved to Prospect Heights this Saturday and this thread prompted me to register here.
First of all, for every bonehead financial frat jock there's some self-righteous coop-shopping nouveau-cool Conneticut ex-patriot who thinks organic food makes their shit smell like a non-genetically enhanced meadow. Assholes come from all sides of the field.
Regardless, as others have said, this divisive attitude is more of a detriment to the neighborhoods you love more than any new neighbors could be. Imagine if you moved into a neighborhood and before you opened your mouth you were deemed inferior and a negative addition to the neighborhood. Kinda fucked up, right?
Rather than write these people off I think you should take the high road and actually get to know them...perhaps they could provide you with some depth and insight. You can't deal with people until you empathize with them.
As far as the character of the neighborhood, honestly the neighborhood is continually changing. When my mom saw my apartment building she was visibly shocked, because apparently Prospect Heights used to be a slum. Is that part of the character we want to preserve? Again, the neighborhoods are changing...so I don't see why people choose to resist and resist, rather than incorporate what they want from the neighborhood into the changes being made. Because really, landlords are not in the business of creating some hipster utopia...they're in it to make money. If BK can attract people who can pay higher rent, then those are the people landlords will rent to.
It makes my heart heavy that I've only been in PH for a good 2-3 days, and I'm finding out that 'my kind's not wanted here'. I'm an engineer by the way, but I went to Cooper Union, if that helps my cause at all. -
I think engineers received a pass somewhere in this thread.
And there aren't any frats at Cooper Union are there? You might squeak through. 8)
