Spa and Nail Services in Fort Greene

Does anyone have a recommendation for nail salons, waxing, or other spa services in Fort Greene? I've tried a pedicure and wax at the Mirai spa on Fulton. Good pedicure, terrible waxing. So I wanted to toss it out to see if anyone had other suggestions. Body by Brooklyn seems really pricy--there must be something else somewhere around here.

  • Polish Bar of Brooklyn on Myrtle between Washington and Hall. Had a great pedicure there that's still going strong after 3 weeks (and mostly closed-toe shoes). I know they also do waxing but have never had an experience.

  • Nu Yu Day Spa
    Grand Avenue
don't know what you consider pricey..
  • Charming Nail Salon on Waverly and Lafayette. Very basic nail, waxing, massage. Manicures run about $6, pedicures $13. They get very busy midday on the weekends. Pedicures last about 2 weeks, manis a week or less. They have great color choices though (unlike Purple Nail on Myrtle and Hall; I don't think they've updated their colors since 1997). The husband (owners are husband & wife) also gives a really good massage. I've seen men coming in for the last few years, which to me is a sign of confidence in a business. I've never done waxing but women get all kinds: brazil, chin, etc.

I personally want to try Polish. I love the ambiance of the place (more plushed out than Charming for sure).
  • does charming nail allow you to store your own set of tools there, for hygiene's sake?
  • Yes, a lot of customers do this.
  • At Polish, it's mandatory.

Do they also serve pierogies there? :P
  • I wish!! Every time I go to pronounce that place in my head, I want to say it that way.
  • I went to PBB on Myrtle on Saturday and had a divine pedicure. Truly. It was fantastic. It was pricey--I spent $40 and got the luxe pedicure--but totally worth it. I highly recommend!
  • Charming Nail gives me pause. I do think the massages are good, but the quality of mani and pedi varies dramatically depending on the person you get. I've had manicures there that last only a few days--but what can you expect for $6?

I had one woman recently who I would swear was giving the first manicure of her entire life. It was awful and she did not speak English. I also suspect she was an illegal immigrant without the required state cosmetology license. If you look around, there are no licenses prominently displayed as there are in other salons. I think the owner is taking advantage of illegals.

Charming Nail is very convenient, but I'd rather pay a few bucks more and know that licensed people are working there.

Rose Nail on DeKalb is definitely more reliable.
  • Subject: Polish and Polish

Polish BB on Myrtle is pretty fab -- the $30 mani / pedi is a sweet deal and a step up from the usual dingy spots...they also do great eyebrows.

Once this place gets popular the wait for a pedicure will be brutal though...they only have 3 chairs.

For a quick in-and-out I'll usually walk over to the South Slope to Polish on 5th Ave. They do a decent job and the $20 mani / pedi can't be beat.
  • You're absolutely right (unfortunately) about the quality of the service depending on the person, tinarina.
