Isn't sock puppeting defined as creating a second or multiple identities on the same bulletin board? I don't see how posting anonymously counts as that--especially since the person said they were a registered user who decided to post anon. Personally, I'm not bothered by it.
I probably should only contact you privately, but seeing as you are being so "public" about your sock puppeting, I'll respond publicly too... -

I disagree with you as to whether this is sock puppeting or not. Just because one identity is anonymous doesn't change the nature of it. I don't really have a problem with it myself, and in fact have done exactly the same on one occasion. Once guest starts sniping at other registered users (flexichick) though, it's problematic. -

Agreed, but people should maintain a decent level of discourse, particularly when discussing their neighbors, among which I count Smartmom and some of you myself. Some of the comments in this and the previous smartmom thread went beyond common snark or criticism. Nasty and catty come to mind.
I think nasty and catty is writing a blog about your supposed friends' private sex lives.
I agree with you, but why sink to her level? -

I don't think we have any great puppetry scandal today
The rules of the board are
For sure it gets boring quick (and often shockingly obvious, even without access to the secret code for confirmation) when people make dueling identities to fight or agree with themselves online. Flexi had her own little puppet not too long ago, remember?
-Try to pick one username and stick with it. If you start posting under different identities, do not be surprised when people get angry with you, or try to "out" you publicly as masquerading.
Linus is correct that it *is* somewhat different for a registered user to go "anon for this one"
Back on topic, I can't stand OTBKB or SmartMom.
It's funny how the All About Me blogging is funny until it's not. -
Pitu, we went through "Flexi's own sock puppet before" and I've already explained the situation. If you feel the need to review it yet again, feel free to PM me.
As for "Guest", well, I do find it funny (and sad) that their only issue is with MY comments about SmartMom and that they don't have the guts to post it under their own ID. I certainly feel "brave" (or "catty", however it's chosen to be viewed) enough to say it while "wearing my real clothes".
Now, does anybody else care to weigh in on "Smartmom"? -
Smartmom doesn't bother me, and I'll read he column if it's in front of me. She can be entertaining. But I also think her writing is, well, theatrical, self-important -- preachy but without the underlying gravity that good preaching requires.
I am sometimes impressed by her forthrightness regarding envy -- she speaks about the tensions between haves and have nots in our PS microcosm, tensions that other people have but won't admit too. That being said, her economic diversity spotlight never really ventures from the named streets and Park blocks, nor does it seem to travel west of Sixth Avenue, unless to complain about how very far away Fairway is without a car.
So in the end I think Park Slope has, in Smartmom, the very kind of blog it deserves. -

And the truly impressive thing is that you haven't sacrificed quality in the process! -
