Interesting. I have no problem with Hevesi -- I think he's a rather rare career pol that does a good job.
The thing about getting his sick wife driven around is unimportant to me.

he's the state comptroller for goodness sake
if anyone should steer clear of fiscal mischief. it's him

he should have paid the money out of pocket in the first place

add to that the fact that spitzer has fined him about $170,000
--and that even if Hevesi were to win, he'd be subject to a fine, suspension or impeachment all make him a difficult candidate to vote for
  • couldn't vote for him. just couldn't. i agree with Q -- he's the MONEY guy for goodness sake; his misbehavior lost my vote, unfortunately for him.
  • my problem is this: I don't want that dumb fuck republican in office.

so, I voted for hevesi. knowing spitzer, if hevesi wins, he'll be out on his ass in a few weeks anyway. and then maybe we can engage in some other process (someone outlined it on NY1) and get a replacement democrat. not some asshole, anti-choice republican. :)
  • Why not vote for a third party candidate or withhold your vote for comptroller entirely? There is no way in hell I'm going to vote for a comptroller who doesn't have the good sense or ethical sense to refrain from embezzling money, just on principle.

Also, I read bifteck's point about the comptroller's ability to be a nuisance on pro-choice issues, but I'm pretty skeptical. I highly doubt in the real world a pro-life comptroller could really cause any trouble, especially in a state govt dominated by democrats.
  • My problem with Hevesi is that he got busted for doing the same thing when he was comptroller in NYC. Literally the same thing. Same wife, same cars.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, same on me.

That being said, I couldn't bring myself to vote for a guy with such minimal experience and wildly right-wing fiscal ideology. I'm hoping Hevesi will get the bog boot and the Dems will put someone with experience in his place.

But it sure was an interesting problem.
  • I wrote in Sharpton.
  • in the end. it didn't matter
    hevesi still got elected
and he'll get booted just as promptly

So civil. Your eloquence is grand. I applaud you for your goal of circumventing the democratic process.

since I don't see you indicting medusa or quijibo for expressing somewhat similar thoughts on the process, I can only assume that you have a problem with my vocabulary choices.

thankfully, "eloquence" has little to do with the democratic process (or kerry's choice comments re: education and Iraq would have damned the dems this election) or the circumvention of the process (or bush never would have gotten the white house in the first place - david boise is one of the most eloquent (though not the most civil) appellate lawyers in the country).
  • I'm not at all convinced that Spitzer will go for Voter Nullification with Hevesi.
    Anyone want to bet?

i'll bet you a growler of Bierkraft beer that Spitzer will knock Hevesi out on his can

    what do you bet? :-s
