Best pizza delivery?
I've spent the night googling to no avail... where's the best pizza that delivers in prospect heights?
Edited, to save others the hassle - thanks everyone for the advice
Antonio's Pizzeria & Restaurant (most recomendations)

or
Gino's Pizza (mixed reviews)
718 230 3932
and sometimes
Joe's Pizza on seventh

It's slim pickings. I usually go with Antonio's, occasionally Michael's (on Bergen) or sometimes Joe's (in PS) just to mix it up a little. I'm never really satisfied with any of them, but sometimes you just need a pizza fix. I love Franny's and I like Amorina, but I don't think they're really the kind of thing you were asking about (actually, I don't think Franny's delivers either). -
Antonios.
Don't be snobby....it's good. -

Maybe it would be good in South Dakota or Minnesota... :P -

Nah...there is "better" there...but, it's not "Brooklyn" style.

What, because a pizza isn't NY style, it isn't pizza? That's like saying there's only one standard of beauty to judge women (or men) by - asinine. -

Gino's on Flatbush and Bergen. They deliver and it is good!

That's my point. If someone says Antonio's is better than ok, I have be kind of skeptical of their pizza world view.

I've actually never tried that place because so many people have trashed it here. Maybe I'll give it a try next time I'm up for a slice. -
Here's a really extensive discussion about Park Slope pizza:
http://brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=615
Many of those places deliver to PH (at least up to Underhill, which is the delivery cutoff for a lot of PS restaurants ). -
Actually, I had an experimental slice at The Usual. It wasn't bad at all. It had a nice semi-thick crust which had flavor wasn't doughy at all, a major feat in my opinion, the cheese and pepperoni was a tad salty and greasy, minor bugs, but it was very good.

best pizza from antonio's (like, to the point where I order a large and wrap slices and freeze them for later meals): a "well done" (thanks to whoever on the board said to order that way) white-ricotta pizza with fresh tomatoes. so good.

Actually, MY point is that I still haven't found pizza as good as some of the pies you can get in Minneapolis/St. Paul. I find that funny since Brooklyn is "known" for its pizza. -

Well, for God's sake, get on the Q train and go to Di Fara's. -
That's the weird part; there's a handful of places that soundly crush everywhere else in the world, but all the non-gourmet local deliveries are less worthwhile than your avg. suburb parlor.
-
Not sure if they deliver to PH, but PS's Tomato and Basil (4th & Union) has the absolute best eggplant pizza ever.

While work kept me away from the boards today, the same thought crossed my mind. There are some good places around, but if we ignore national chains, there's a disproportionately high number of sub-par pizza shops in the BK. For instance, I think that if you were to randomly select a pizza shop here vs in the Twin Cities (selected because it's the only other market that I'm familiar with, in this regard), there's a better chance of getting a bad pie here. -

Yes NY pizza is better than all others and it is the standard by which to judge all other pizzas

My friend and I just ordered Antonio's for the first time tonight (btw, passable at best) and we were talking about Kim Severson's piece in the Times about Domino's "Brooklyn Style Pizza."
Anyway, I just went to the "Brooklyn Style Pizza" website and... Well... See for yourself.

Scroll over the different people on the page. Which one are YOU? -
Carnivore, you started it not me, but there is no pizza delivery like this in Brooklyn:
And that's the regular price stuff (~$14/pie) not the gourmet stuff. Oh, just go read the whole thing. Memories of Minnesota pies... Swoon.
This weekend, even, you can have pizzas delivered to you by characters such as Galactic Girl and Captain Fantastic, real Minneapolis folks who will arrive at your house in actual electric cars, and will ring your doorbell while wearing actual homemade lamé capes, jumpsuits, sparkles, and fancy boots (imagine outfits that split the difference between Barbarella, Bjork, and your last last-minute Halloween costume). When you greet them, they will unpack actual pizzas for you that are topped with tasty things that you can feel good about feeding to your loved ones, like mozzarella cheese that comes from local farmers. [...] Of their specialty pizzas I tried, my favorite was the "CSA" pizza (a pie topped with whatever tasty things the farm delivers that week) of the moment: It was very, very fresh chèvre, mozzarella, and thin slices of green garlic, those scallion-like, garlic-tasting shoots on a "bianca" sauce of garlic and olive oil. It tasted fresh and rich, sweet and pure, light and focused, and reminded me of nothing so much as a classic Italian ricotta pie, except thinner.

That's all I was saying.CHE wrote: Carnivore, you started it not me, but there is no pizza delivery like this in Brooklyn:
I don't really need the gimmicks. And people who talk too much about the toppings are not to be trusted about pizza. The best way to judge a pizza is with a regular slice. And while good quality cheese and tasty sauce are important, the most critical benchmark of a delicious pizza is the crust, which I didn't see described at all above.

the most essential problem, imho, with most pizza in the nabe is the sauce. I don't like soupy, gloopy pizza at the best of times, so lousy sauce really messes up the whole equation. antonios, in addition to an average crust, has below average sauce. hence the critical choice of ordering a white pizza - instead of mediocre tomato sauce, you get olive oil and garlic. a much better solution to both the lousy sauce issue and the lousy crust issue.
-
True dat. However, we must remember that you get what you pay for. The places where you can get a "slice or two" only usually does not have great sauce. Lenny's has somewhat of a good sauce but the crust now or days is pretty gooey. Antonio's, is probably the only pizzeria in the Slope and Heights that has a crispy crust and an okay sauce. Smiling is very hit and miss, Pino's/La Forchetta just plain sucks and Joes makes an attempt at making gourmet slices. So, unless you're willing to buy a whole pie at places like Franny's, Tomato and Basil, Grimaldi's, etc, a $2 slice will be a $2 slice. Unless you're a DiFara freak, which I think is over rated. As a side note, I have found out that The Usual will now be making pizza.
-
What I really miss are brick oven pies from Patricia's, on Morris Park Ave in the Bronx.

that place rocks. so delicious. if we're all feeling particularly masochistic one day, we should hop on the 2 and head up there. -

DiFara's is good, but I'd be comfortable putting several MN shops up against 'em.Carnivore wrote: The best way to judge a pizza is with a regular slice.
Unless you happen to like things other than just cheese and sauce on your pizza. -
Have you tried La Villa? They prolly deliver to PH.
I know it *looks* like it's in Minnesota, but they have good ovens and carmelize their onions (and I can walk from my house. so I get takeout there)
We get the square pie; no idea about the thin crust bliss. I suppose that disqualifies me from the pizza judging, right?
Anyway, try their Speciale or D.O.C.
