Subject: Biscuit Bands?
I hope the new Biscuit has live music. Maybe even a Clogging night! -
Rick, I don't know about the clogging, you might have to bring your own defibrulator.
-
At that price point, especially for this food, you should be serving generous portions of WARM, freshly baked breads (biscuits and cornbread) to the tables gratis and allow people to pick real side dishes. Ridiculous.
Very good point. They did the same thing at the Flatbush location. We all know what a resounding success that was.
As far as the music goes, its kind of cool to walk by on my way home from work and listen to music. -

No, not that "Clogging!"

Did they sell the name to someone else? I remember Biscuit being decent--not the best but pretty good. I went there with friends last night and EVERYONE thought their food was mediocre to awful. It didn't taste like the same food--the whole place felt like a restaurant that's only goal is to cash in and make $$$$$$$$. And the other poster is right--we PAID for some Biscuits that should have come free to the table. We all agreed, we aren't ever going back in there again. What a waste of a babysitter!!!

Subject: Absolutely Terrible
I posted this review on eatingforbrooklyn as well. Reposted here to help humanity avoid this food...
Went last night with my girlfriend. This place sucks. Ribs aren't properly bbq'd...way too much fat, not tender, and burnt in places from reheating on a grill. The sides are miserable...grit/dirt in my collard greens, beet salad made with canned (!) beets, biscuits not flaky (I seriously think we received a cornbread/biscuit hybrid although the waitress disavowed it)or even warm. They bring out 5 different sauces to crowd the table, but who cares? I'd rather have one good sauce and a bigger plate so that my half (!) rack of ribs doesn't keep falling off and onto my table.
And check this... a band starts to perform in the back but starts by informing the audience that Night and Day used to have mandatory cover charge, but since Biscuit doesn't someone will be coming around to collect a voluntary $10 cover charge! WTF!! Its voluntary, yet you have the gall to tell me its $10. I guess biscuit isn't paying them anything to perform but come one...
Seriously a terrible place. -

Everyone seems to love Biscuit (except for those who hate it). Anyone know if they do brunch? Anyone tried their brunch? -

Very well put.
Last weekend I had the Southern Breakfast w/ slab bacon and my friend Doug had the Trailor Court quiche. It was hearty and delicious, eggs over easy and perfect, potatoes roasted just right, bacon thick and crunchy (for 8 bucks each). How can you beat that? We liked them so much split another side of roasted potatoes.
I like the Biscuit dinners too (especially the Brisket) despite some of these reviews. People I've run into on the street say they all like it too, guess they don't know about this board. For those that don't like it, give us some room, the lines have been pretty damn long. -
Mmmmmmm... sounds deelish. Can't wait to go. Thanks!
-
Ok- tried Biscuit for brunch this weekend. All I can say is: yuk. Crappy biscuits, which is just too sad given their name, extra runny grits... nothing was particularly inspiring. When I asked the server if the home fries had large or small potato chunks (an important distinction, in my book) she responded "they can fit in your mouth." 'Nuff said.

sounds awful. ugh.

we went by for a beer . . . biscuits were underdone, but the onion rings were great.
(yeah, this was a little after brunchtime) -
First, sorry to resurrect this thread from the grave.
But after reading this thread, I really held off on going to Biscuit, given all the horrible reviews.
I finally went, and I have to say that the overall negativity in this thread, about this place is totally overboard.
I enjoy bbq a great deal, and while I might not be the officianado many on this thread claim to be, I can tell good from bad.
Biscuit is not the greatest bbq place in the world, or probably even in brooklyn, but for a neighborhood bbq place, it is entirely acceptable.
My wife and I went, and we got the pulled chicken, the half ribs and half fried chicken. we got the grits, smashed potatoes, yams and mac and cheese. we both agreed that across the board, each item was somewhere between ok and good. not great, but certainly, for a neighborhood bbq place, it was satisfying.
the manager, after the meal, asked us how it was, and if there was anything we would change. they may not be perfect, but they are certainly trying.
Living in NYC, I think we all tend towards food snobbery quicker than most. I am often guilty of that as well, and often find myself berating the occasional Yamato for not being as good as Nobu. Sometimes, I have to remind myself that its not supposed to be as good as Nobu. -
Living in NYC I have a high bar for lots of stuff, but never for BBQ.
I agree that Biscuit is okay, and getting disproportionate beating online.
We went back for a beer and onion rings. Onion rings AWESOME (and $7, watchout) and bartender nice (and vegetarian, ha) -
Subject: so sad
We had a few mediocre meals at Night & Day, loved the space, but felt there were many restaurants nearby serving much better food. The food felt really basic, totally lacked love. We were THRILLED to learn about the collaboration with Flatbush’s Biscuit, seemed very promising.
We like the decor, the wait staff is pleasant, the beer choice fine, the graphic design great. But the food, left SOO much to be desired. Cooking good southern BBQ is not that hard, so getting wrong is really unacceptable.
Save for the fried chicken (so crispy! so fun!), everything in our meal fell short.
The collard greens were stemmy and lacked flavor. I can steam greens at home and get something with similar taste. What makes true southern collard greens so delicious is deep flavor, with tang and bite. So dissapointing - and watery: they should be served in a separate dish to prevent the sad flavorless water that developed on the bottom of my entire plate.
The candied yams were gross, way too much spice (nutmeg? cloves?) and not enough flavor! Any grandmother can make yams that are stickier, sweeter, richer and more satisfying - consult one to get a new recipe!
The pulled chicken: totally dry, and then some BBQ sauce on top? LAME.
The Red Velvet Cake? The frosting tasted like a stale refridgerator, the cake inside hadn’t even the slightest hint of chocolate. A complete dissapointment. -
Had brunch there yesterday, left very underwhelmed. Too pricy for what you get. Homefries and biscuits were pretty good, but nothing really stood out. Waitstaff was indeed very nice, main dining room was dark and dreary (why were the curtains closed?!). Place was fairly empty considering it was peak brunch hours.

Subject: Avoid.
Time to bring this thread back up......
The very specific and detailed "the food was awful here" posts SHOULD have scared me off, but godammit, I was really jonesin' for some BBQ and my wife and I really wanted to prove the reviews wrong.
You were right: THE FOOD HERE IS AWFUL.
I'm hardly a BBQ snob, and I've happily scarfed down so-so ribs, pulled pork and brisket plenty of times in the past, but our meal at Biscuit was basically inedible. I got the bicuits & gravy with pulled pork and two sides, my wife got the brisket with two sides. I will admit that the onion rings we got as an appetizer were pretty great, and our sides (mashed potatoes, cole slaw and baked beans) were also quite good........BUT the pulled pork was dry and flavorless (and, no, the two nasty sauces didn't help much). Also, how can a place called "Biscuit" have such bad biscuits?? And don't get me started on the gelatinous sausage gravy...... My wife's "brisket" turned out to be a plate of BBQ-colored fat. After sending it back, the second plate brought out was less fatty, but literally tasted like dry, spongy sliced beef - no smokiness, no BBQ flavor, no f-ing way we're going back there.
It's too bad because the staff was super-nice (we sat at the bar) and the place is really cute. We wanted so badly to like the place, but, seriously, it was one of the worst dining experiences we've had in the Slope since moving here a year ago. -
I live across the street from Biscuit, and I've been so excited about it ever since it opened. Night and Day drove me crazy -- the food was mediocre, the live music in the back at night was loud and obnoxious and often bad. So when I saw Biscuit opening, I told everyone! I recommended friends! Fried chicken, any time I wanted it!
I read this thread last year, and convinced myself people just had very specific ideas about their BBQ, and this didn't fill it. I kept believing.
My husband and I have now been there three times. Each time, I've had something different, hoping to find the one good thing. And you know what? It's absolutely horrible. Just so, SO BAD!
How can they be getting it so wrong? Do they not know?? It's been so dissapointing. -
yep, and Time Out NY was very underwhelmed with them, too. go try Smoke Joint in ft. greene for ribs, and BBQ in South Slope/Greenwood Heights for brisket. i don't know if you'll be happy, but you'll certainly be happier.

Thanks for the alternatives to Biscuit. I've been there once and was not impressed. The coleslaw was bizarre. They served three large slices of cabbage in a tiny plastic cup. WTH? I tried to give a second try one night but it was literally mobbed with strollers. I don't mind a kid or two in a restaurant, but they had a stroller at every single table. No thank you. We went to Bogota instead and were so happy! -

Totally agree. Yay Bogota! Biscuit, don't let the door hit yer *** on the way out of the Slope.
