Neighbors - Mind if I hang a Banner on my building?
I'm planning on hanging an 11 foot wide by 17 foot high advertising banner on the side of my building (3rd Ave in the named streets). The advertising will be for my business but I may eventually sell the ad space down the road. It will be along the lines of the Red White and Bubbly banner on the corner of 5th and Union -pretty plain - text only.
Just curious what others think.....

ILLEGAL!
Check with your Community Board about the new laws. Adverts on buildings (and I am not talking about commercial properties and "proper" street front signage), went the way of the gun back in July in our fair City.
Fair or not, it's prob. for the best. Sorry for your biz. Yellow Pages?
(PS. I'm a small biz owner myself, though my "shingle" is hung in hyperspace n the net) -
No - it is legal. I have a commercial bldg and it is allowed as of right in an M1-2 zone - I can and willl obtain a permit- i've checked into all this.

Commercial, then you may be right...for YOUR business. Other advertising has been greatly curtailed through out the city. I was making a "good suggestion" to contact your CB. DOB does not always have all their ducks in a row when it comes to this stuff and I'd hate to have you get a fine and then take it down.
A suggestion is all.
Good luck. -
Thanks for the feedback - I hadn't considered asking the community board although i can't imagine they would be in favor of it - at least I hope not. Perhaps it will be one more reason to help move the zoning here residential. As it stands now 3rd avenue could become a strip mall environment.

while i don't particularly like those banner signs
{unless they're gorgeous!}
i doubt they're illegal
just please make sure your banner sign is gorgeous!
Howdy, Stranger!
