Telephone Harassment
At least 4-6 times a week, for around two months now, I've been getting a telemarketing call for my wife in the mornings. The company calls themselves World Financial Services, which I assume has something to do with student loans, although they won't tell me exactly. I've been assured at least ten times that my name has been taken off their list, but it's to no avail. They sometimes call twice in one morning. I've asked to speak to a supervisor but just get put on hold forever. It is driving me crazy!! I have caller ID so I know all the times that they call and I just don't pick up as well. They even call on weekends, and there's almost nothing worse than getting woken up by an asshole telemarketer on a hungover Saturday morning!
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I might be able to do to stop them? I'm already on the Federal do-not-call list, and I filed a complaint on that website, but that was like a month ago and there's been no change. Do you think calling 311 might accomplish anything? Is there any other avenue available for filing a complaint about this? I feel like murdering all the first born sons of the people who keep calling me. WTF!!!!! :x :x

Escap,
Assuming you're a Verizon customer, go to this link and it should help you deal with the problem.
If you're someone else's customer, call them or go to their website. The volume of calls you're talking about is definitely actionable.

Because I am evil and petty, I'll give you my solution...
Me: Hello
Telemarketer: Hello, may I please speak to X?
Me: Who's calling?
Telemarketer: I'm calling from World Financial Services about a personal matter.
Me: I'm not sure X is here right now, can you hold while I check?
Telemarketer: Sure
(Lays telephone in front of radio tuned to something really obnoxious - (I personally like the foreign language am stations) and WALK AWAY)
Ten minutes later...
Me: Hello
Telemarketer: I'm holding for X
Me: She didn't pick up?
Telemarketer: No.
Me: Let me go get her
(Lays phone down next to radio and walk away)
Twenty minutes later...
Me: Hello, hello...
I've used this sucessfully for the debt collector who insisted that some woman lived at my house even though I told them they had the wrong number every one of the hundred times they called me. I suggested that they sue her since contacting her by phone wasn't working, no dice. So finally, I just passive-agressived them to death. After three or four times they finally stopped calling me. -
Hehehe, yeah, believe me I've thought of all kinds of cruel and hilarious ways of making their lives miserable.
I use Time Warner Cable for my phone, not Verizon. I called them and they said I can just block any calls that come through as unblocked or anonymous, so I guess that's what I'll do. It'll restore my sanity, I guess, but I may just start allowing the calls through again so I can screw with them as suggested. -
have you tried googling the number to see if they have a company website. or any clues that will allow you to send them a pack of fresh dog feces?

escap,
Look at the Verizon page anyway. It lays out what rises to the level of harassment and your situation clearly does. Don't let Time Warner drop the ball in your lap. They have obligations they have to live up to and you should hold them to it. -
really classy ltjbukem.

GEt as much info as you can about WFS. Keep reporting them to the no-call registry every time they call. They should get hit with fines, which ultimately will make them stop.
