9th Street NOISE

I live on the 16th floor of a high-rise above 9th St. at 5th Avenue, and there is a constant, grating chirping noise that - after doing some detective work - I found out comes from MY OWN BUILDING! It's the sound made when the gate opens and closes for cars in our parking lot, and it can best be described as a loud, robotic cricket.

It's quite obnoxious and, although I've asked management to curtail the sound (because it's not as if parking lots throughout the city are required to have such a sound upon their cars' entrances and exits), nothing has changed.

Is there any way to report "noise pollution"? Are there proper sources? Any ideas?

Could it just be a squeak that some WD40 would take care of?

i think I know the sound you mean... I work in an industrial part of sunset park and each day i pass a car garage that has a sort of harsh beeping alarm when the garage door closes. This garage also has lights to accompany the sound. It's terrible.

Subject: I know that gate

I live on 9th above 5th, but walk past that building a lot on the way to the train. That sound is definitely intentional. It's supposed to alert pedestrians to cars coming or going (I think) but it is seriously annoying. Luckily, I'm just out of earshot of it when I'm at home. I think I'd go insane if I was in that building.

It's horrible. I actually took it into my hands and called the manufacturing company that makes the product (it's called a Liftmaster). They said that the sound is optional and can be turned off, so let's see the horrid management company that owns my building will actually DO SOMETHING about it.
