Cafe Shane noise complaint... — Brooklynian

Cafe Shane noise complaint...

edited November -1 in Prospect Heights
I had to go over to Cafe Shane at 1am in my pj's to ask the chef and his boys to turn down their damn music. I try to be sympathetic to the occasional boomin system, but these dudes were bumpin their shit at 7am today too! ](*,) I'm unfortunate enough to live right next door, literally, to the Cafe, and for some reason they're louder when closed. They agreed to turn down the music, but i'm in bed and can still feel the bass vibrating thru the walls. If they don't let up, Cafe Shane's gonna start getting a lot of noise complaints, word up. :x Guess that's good news for Tom's.

Yeah.. at least it's not annoying techno. But still.

  • i don't like when they make my bed vibrate - they've been really loud lately with that booming bass.
edit to say::: don't worry, usually after 2 pj complaints, it doesn't seem to happen again for a really long time. also, the owner is really nice & you might want to catch him outside and have some pleasant words with him.
  • what's the owners name?? and what's he look like??

he's the guy with all the dreadlocks. I can never remember his name - his son is Shane.
  • The owner's name is Luther.

As opposed to just dreadlocks. Or some dreadlocks.

Well that would explain where all of mine have disappeared to lately.
  • ](*,) Got up earlier than usual this morning to ask the folks at Cafe Shane to lower the bass again. I hate being that guy complaining that music's too loud... but damn. I can recognize a half dozen songs that get heavy rotation over there, just from the bassline reverberating thru my walls and picture frames. The girl behind the counter was kind and said she'd ask if they can turn off the speaker against the wall they share with my building. I hope they oblige, but I can still feel the bass. I think i might go back over there and speak to Luther "with all the dreads"... :?
  • yeah, my room was vibrating this morning, too!!
  • it's a subwoofer!!! They conveniently have their subwoofer mounted to the ceiling in the corner of the restaurant against the building I live in. Ugh. I think it's bassier in here than it is in Shane.

I lived in a similar situation where the music from the bar directly below my apartment was intolarably. I went down and talked to the owner and to the landlord. Eventually the problem went away.

You've taken the right course of action by going to the restaurant and asking the people involved to address the problem. But my question to you is: why do you have to post your complaints on this board?

So you have a subwoofer within a couple of feet of your apartment? I wonder what would happen if you got hold of a serious electromagnet, placed it as close as possible, and fed it a lot of juice. There's a limit to how many gauss you could pull over that distance without superconduction, but maybe a scrap coil from an old machine would be enough to give you a volume knob.

Simple....to find out if anyone has had the same problem with Cafe Shane. Power in numbers, baby. Seems as valid a subject as problems with mosquitos or with gentrification

Another reason...they've been playing D'angelo "Untitled(how does it feel)" on repeat the last 40 minutes and counting :o . As much as I love D'angelo, hearing any song on repeat THAT MANY TIMES is an offense worth pointing out to others.

    BASS!
