It would be cool to buy one and then smash it in an appropriate public place.

Why so negative to the PS3? I've never owned a gaming console, but I want this to succeed as I want blu-ray to win as I want the superior technology with the highest density storage as the next removable media format. And I would be disappointed if Sony went bankrupt over this, as they've traditionally been a force for innovation in consumer electronics. -

They haven't been making the greatest decisions, lately - they sunk a lot in to SACD and it sure didn't make too many waves... -

My negativity isn't really coming from a dislike of the PS3 or Sony...I've just had enough of the hype, The imbeciles who will wait in line for days to maybe get one, the non-news stories about imbeciles waiting in line for days to maybe get one (but almost certainly get on TV!) and so on. There are some irritating things about the system, but it's not the focus of my disgust - which really isn't all that serious in any case.
And hey, I play games, but for the games I like the PC is better. Were I into sports games and fighting games I'd probably get a PS3 (or already have a 360) but you can be sure I'd wait until I could just walk into a store and buy it with no hassle. -

True. I actually have a SACD player and I doubt I'll ever use this feature, though I might if I were still recording. Most people probably can't hear the difference anyhow over 16-bit/44.1KHz. Especially if you don't have top end gear.

So they've made some stupid decisions, but maybe the hit-and-mostly-miss is better than not having such a large firm around to wager big $ on new gear. I fear though that PS3 will send them to the wall. -

Yeah, it is nice to have someone around to push the envelope, I just don't think that they're really doing it, anymore... I used to see them as an innovative, admirable company, but not lately... in some areas where they used to excel, they've become an also-ran, and their new tech has fallen flat. Oh, for the glory days of the trinitron and the walkman!

PlayStation 3 Robbery on Upper East Side
This might be the first PlayStation 3 robbed in the city. A man who bought a PS3 yesterday morning was stopped by a man on Third Avenue who threatened him with a silver gun. The Daily News reports that the PS3 owner, who had just purchased the game console at a store on East 86th Street, found a patrol car and the cops managed to catch the robber. It turns out the thief used a cigarette lighter as his "gun."
While some shoppers are being targeted after buying the PS3, in one instance, a would-be robber was stabbed by the PS3 owner in Indiana. -

Ha! I had just found that and was coming here to post.
I'll sing the praises of the Trinitron. My grandfather's company gave him a small one in the late '70's for being with them 35 years. It's mine now and still works quite well. -

I had a still-working Trinitron until about 3 years ago. -

I work on a Trinitron every day; one in the office, one at home. For what I need, there'll be no technology that can replace CRT at a reasonable price in the foreseeable future. So I hope this line from Sony survives a while yet.

sony is going down!! yay this would be their nail on their coffin. too many mistakes from the hidden codes on cd's to closing down of legit game shops.
Howdy, Stranger!
