i think there's a black cat who hangs out in that bodega -- maybe it was just accidentally out for the night?
I hope someone will find or adopt this cat. -
Yes I met her too - lovely kitty. I thought maybe she'd got out of one of the brownstones on Prospect and couldn't get back in. I didn't see her on my way back from the gym this morning (had seen her the day before and on my way to the gym) nor this evening so I hope she's got back in from when she came from!

Subject: Young black cat on Prospect Place
I found a very friendly, young black cat on my stoop (Prospect Pl. near Vanderbilt; ) at 3:30 PM on Mon., 11/20 & took him in since the night was to be cold. I suspect he is the same one seen up the block near Underhill. I posted flyers on Mon. PM, asked at Acme Pet, & officially reported finding him to the Animal Care people; no one seems to be looking for him (he's still with us). If no one claims him & he can get along with my 2 other cats & Great Dane, we'll probably keep him, but he definitely acts/looks as tho he's been someone's pet. -
Thanks for bringing this little guy into your home! I'm sure that he appreciates getting out of the cold and into a warm, safe place. Kudos to you! Unfortunately dumped cats are found on Prospect Place all of the time, this is not an unusual occurrence. My Prospect Place neighbors and I have taken in countless friendly cats that have been discarded over the last year. It gives me hope when I hear others doing the same thing. It often feels like "you against the world" with this sort of thing. A lot of people will let you know where the cats are but no one wants to get involved and help out. It's a good think that there are wonderful people like yourself in the neighborhood who take them in as needed and don't leave them roaming the streets. Our neighborhood would be a much better place if everyone followed your example.
I would recommend posting "Found Cat" posters in the area where you found him. You don't necessarily even need a photo on the flyer. Anyone that lost a beloved pet in that area that fits your description will call you, photo or no photo. Good call to notify AC&C, Acme Pet, and post on DH.
When you are ready to get him checked out by a vet, Prospect Park Animal Clinic has good rates. Animal Kind also gives a 10% "stray" discount but you will have to ask for it.
I hope that the cat works out in your home. Please keep us posted!
