Christmas trees?

Hi neighbors,

I am a major holiday in NY junkie and, b/c I leave for california mid-december, I like to get a jump on Christmas in post haste after turkey day. Thing is that I have only lived in the hood for about 5 months and am not sure where I can acquire a christmas tree this Sunday. (I know I ought to have posted days ago...)

I plan to check out the BBG, but was wondering if anyone knew of little spots around the hood that tend to become tree lots this early in the season, so I can trim my own tree while watching the rock center one get lit on TV.

I'm not sure if they're there yet, but there's a nice tree lot on Flatbush near Dean. Big selection and decent prices.

PS Food Coop might be selling now. They're on Union between 7th Ave. and 6th Ave. They'll sell to the public. Hell, if you're going to northern Cali bring back a few gian pine cones and plant them in your front and/or backyard. You'll have the tallest pine tree in NYC if not the whole eastern seaboard.

there's a nursery whose name escapes me at E.5th St and Caton Avenue in Kensington that is well worth the trip.

Subject: Found one!

Hey All:

Thanks for all the great tips. Just wanted to let you know that I found an AMAZING tree lady. She's on fifth ave by the Key Food grocery store near Sterling. The woman who runs the "lot" is really nice and her prices are spectacular. I got the most gorgeous 6 ft tree for only $40.

we went to the lot on flatbush and pacific [i think that's what you meant, carnivore?] yesterday and got a really lovely balsam fir for $40 -- i'm not sure exactly how tall, but 6 feet-ish. (there smaller trees started at $20, and there were bigger ones than what we got for more $ too, fyi.)

the guy there was great and very efficiently bound it up and stuck it in my granny cart.

the trees there all seemed very fresh and good quality -- we actually bought the first one we looked at, which NEVER happens (i am picky, and usually have to look through quite a number before finding one with no bare spots, good shape, etc.)

flatbush and pacific: recommended.

we just picked up a tree from there. most of the trees are already dried out... no brown needles yet but the needles do snap when you bend them in half. i'm sure they were cut weeks ago and they don't keep the trees in water. we spent $20 for a just-shy 6' tree. i hope the needles hang on for three more weeks!
