Brooklyn hospital at risk . . .

Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn on the at-risk list - which is a drag because it's a waaaaay better option for an emergency room visit than Methodist.

  • Why not just privatize them instead of closing them down? If the community really needs these hospitals as much as the article suggests, then perhaps a private company could put them back in the black. Maybe some services would have to be scaled back, but that's better than closing it altogether, especially if it's the only viable nearby option for local residents.
  • Yikes!

Methodist use to be great, but the past 5 years, yuck. Though much better than Brooklyn Hospital in Ft. Greene in my old 'nabe. Waited so long one time a guy fell over next to be with a belly wound...that's how he got seen!

Any thoughts on Lutheran Medical? They supposedly have improved their ER 1000%
  • That's a shame. I had a great experience at LICH when my son was born. They have a much nicer L&D unit than Methodist which is only a few blocks away from where I live.
  • there's revised info in today's NYTimes
looks like a different Bklyn hospital is on the chopping block
