I've noticed that is been closed for a few days now, but theres no sign or explanation outside.

Anyone know anything about this? I also noticed they replaced The Minnow with a pool table.

  • I went by there a month or so ago and there was a Board of Health notice on the (locked) door, but I think I've seen it open since. Maybe they didn't correct their issues.
  • They were closed for a few days a month ago, as Drano said. Then they were open and now they're closed again.
My guess is what the consensus is so far - not meeting board of health requirements.
    yeah...i'm not going there anymore.
  • Did anyone actually like that place? I always got crappy service and blah food when i went.

Minnow wasnt that bad from what i remembed the one time i went there a year ago....
  • I'm told they are undergoing a change of ownership. I stopped in there about two weeks ago and they were not serving and this is the reason I was given.

As far as Minnow's food went, I always walked away unimpressed, yet I kept going back. I blogged about it here,.

  • Strange what is going on there.... months ago they tried to open up as a breakfast place...that lasted all of about two weeks...

Then the pool table...then the place is closed with the health sticker. However, that is really not all that uncommon. The fact is every single place in Park Slope could be closed for violations at any moment... nobody is running a ship so tight that the BoH couldn't bust them.

What is strange is that two TVs (yet no liquor or anything else) go missing from the place a week before the board of health busts them. TVs are insured, liquor is not.

Can you spell P-A-Y-O-F-F? Or mob, or insurance money... jesus I live too close for someone to be burning that place down.

Oh... and the place seemed to be doing just fine... nice rather large crowd every single night.
  • The original Minnow restaurant was good, once upon a time.
  • I actually don't eat meals there. I've only had fries and beer there when I have a junk food craving - its around the corner from my apt.
  • inever had a good meal there. after a half a dozen times, i was done with that place.

    worst oyster po'boy EVER.
  • i liked it there. liked the food, nice waitresses. a good place for dates, i thought.

    yes it is.
  • had a bday party there with 20 people about 9 months ago. 15 came down with food poisoning. so I am not suprised about BOH violations
  • If you visit the City'sDepartment of Health & Mental Hygiene website

  • I read a lot of people reporting GI distress over at Chowhound. Something ain't right in that place.
  • have they been open the last few days?
  • Great. Just great. We order from Hunan Wok now and then. Lord knows how much raw sewage I've ingested. Looks like we'll be trying Red Hot....
  • Try Hunan Delight!
  • Eater just had the news--Bar Minnow is indeed dead and will be replaced with a...bank?
  • what the heck is eater?
  • Subject: Bar Minnow

The original owner, chef of Minnow left about 4 months ago after a difference of opinion with the owners of the of the building---the landlord. You can see all the transformations that transpired---upto and including a pool table! The food in the original Minnow was very good. The chef trained at Le Bernadin, a well know fish restaurant in Manhattan The space has been in state of change recently----health department issues, robbery of the TV sets, so nothing for the football and beer crowd. Today, I saw a new guy talking to a awning or sign installer, so something new is coming. The original chef is now cooking at a fish place in Soho or Tribeca. He is nice guy, from the neighborhood, and I wish him the best.
It is too bad that small restaurants have such a hard time surving when trying to serve good food with no gimmicks

yeah, we need more of those. Can we stick another pharmacy in, too. A really crappy one :x
  • Too bad, the restaurant really was good at one time. And they seemed to do a good business -- I remember getting turned away once or twice when I didn't have a reservation. Sounds like opening Bar Minnow was a dumb idea that killed the original restaurant.
  • Sorry to see it go, and surprised to see all the bad press above.

I was always exceedingly comfortable there - thought it had just the right mix of bar and restaurant and hangout - lively, but adult, yet casual. Thought the simple 'bar food' was great....

Above all, perhaps, I thought the place added a nice vibe to the corner.

Oh well... suppose we'll have to live with whatever the almighty dollar gives us - bank, cell phones, realtor, starbucks....

ps. remember when the spot was occupied by a take out joint that made overwrought wraps? and before that... ?
  • I, for one, would like to see it remain a bar..

I walked by last night and saw A LOT of action in there... two new large TVs, walls were painted, liquior was still there, wires being done...

I looks like it will remain a bar of some sort...
  • Bar Minow will be open on Thursday Dec 21st..... I'll be there drunk as a fucking sailor.... STAY OFF THE SIDEWALKS....

I may swing by after my office party, post-office party and the post-post-office Festivus party. It's possible I'll be slighty impaired as well.
  • i passed by Bar Minnow last nite around 7 PM on the B75, and it looked like it was open for business. there were a few patrons at the bar, and a couple of tables had folks.
  • Ok, I walked by there last nite and it didnt look open at all...in fact there was no furniture on the left side where there used to be couches, and there was a group of men in a circle discussing stuff inside.

As I was looking in, they were giving me the "whaddya lookin' at?" look.
  • Jesus H Christ.... Didn't I just say it will be open on the 21st? Why do you people insist on spewing your uninformed banter bullshit....

Bunch of freaking chickens.... they should call this board daily chicken.
  • Are you the Drunken Guest that posted earlier, or the one that needs-anger management classes?

    Dude, are you drinking already?
No one contradicted you once you had said it would open on the 21st. They just posted their observations. I don't know how you could construe any of the postings since your post above (as the Drunken Guest) as "uninformed" when they were simply reporting facts. Are you claiming they weren't open the other night as shishkab observed, or that Cabaki's post above is untrue?
