Clinton Hill: What's to Eat? — Brooklynian

Clinton Hill: What's to Eat?

Subject: Clinton Hill: What's to Eat?

I just moved to Clinton Hill last week, and I'm looking forward to exploring my new nabe in my favorite way: with my belly. Anyone have some suggestions on where I should start?

We hit the Myrtle Ave. Zaytoons on moving day and were really pleased--much better and cheaper than our old Olive Vine in PS, which has been in a sad decline the last year or so.

We are carnivores!

  • If you're near Myrtle, try Five Spot. Great soul food.

get the roast chicken w/rice & plantains. scrumptious! and don't forget a large iced tea--the best ever!
  • Oh yeah, that place is definitely on my list! We're actually right off Fulton, but I think we will need to range far afield for the good eats.

Speaking of Fulton, how if Joloff's? Or Kush?
  • Subject: i have not eaten at either joloff's or kush

but i have heard good things about both, esp. kush.

and of course there's always bodegas for okay food & cool atmosphere.

and MIKE'S DINER for breakfast on the weekends! (dekalb & st. james)

Been to Maggie Brown's yet? It's got soul food like 5 spot but its better quality, imo. (and a little more expensive).

I just recently started eating at Zeytoon's. I love it.
  • Subject: KUSH-- since i previously posted,

i have tried Kush. while the food looked good & had good presentation, it tasted very bland to me. that is good if you like tasting the flavors of the food vs. tasting spices. i like both. if i go there again, i will just request spicy. also, i heard they are changing their menu.

I disagree strongly, for the price you pay the food is great, if you want a spicy dish ask for advice there are plenty of incendiary dishes on the menu. The desserts are especially good there and Sammy and his brother are very warm and friendly, it's a wonderful restaurant.
If you want something a little more expensive and exotic, try Vinny and Ollie on Grand it's authentic southern Italian, they have a good wine list and the cooking is very good, nice ambience too
  • Locanda Vini e Olii is great, but it is northern Italian (Tuscan) not southern. Kuch is very good too. There are also all of the places in Fort Greene on DeKalb such as Ici, Liquors, Lou Lou, Chez Oscar, Sushi ...
  • Oops, I meant "Kush" not "Kuch".

WELL, i would've loved to try the desserts, but our waitress did not offer any to us, nor did she ask us if we wanted drinks. she kind of seemed ready for us to get out of there, even tho we were the only customers at the time.

HOWEVER, i am still willing to go there again.
