Mr. Wonton closing or not?

I thought that several announced that Mr. Wonton was to close at the end of October? Just curious now.

  • It was still open the last time I walked by (last weekend).
  • CLosing because of lack of business? I love that place! :(
  • I asked the woman at the cash register the last time I was in the restaurant. She told me that they would be closing "next year."
  • For what reason?
  • i'm wondering the same thing. it's still open as far as i can tell. did anyone ever know for FACT that mr. wonton is planned to close? on this same blog a long time ago someone said that mango was closing, but mango never did close. business owners posting closings and openings here is believeable. a spectator's guess isn't.

i'll believe it when i see it.
  • Well I guess they are still open then! I recall several postings in which customers spoke with both owner and cooks who said that the place was closing b/c the owner was tired of it and that the cooks were supposed to move to the kitchen at the other Chinese place close on 7th. Who knows...

I remember those postings too. When I read them I was surprised that Mr. Wonton, which serves OK food, was connected to that nasty Hunan Wok restaurant, situated on 7th Avenue between President and Union streets (and not to be confused with Hunan Delight), that serves frozen crabs and deep-fried, freezer-burnt eggrolls. The ice chip in the center of my "fresh, soft shell crab" suggested that Hunan Wok's cooks have not found the "defrost" button on their microwave.
  • Cabaki,

When I spoke with the cashier at Mr. Wonton she seemed very tired and so I didn't ask her why they were closing.

On another Chinese restaurant note: Does anyone know what happened with Charles and Henry who formerly ran Tofu on 7th? They were such sweeties.
