yes dear, heard you the first time.
or are we experiencing a quirk in the software? I've noticed a number of redacted double postings . . . -
No - Idlewild was giving you the recipe for Refried Parrot

I used to see them on 8th Street eating from a mulberry tree--I have them in my backyard sometimes at the birdfeeder in Kensington. There are lots of them in Greenwood Cemetary!

there is a whole flock of them at the Boneyard.
however, lately i've noticed that there is a pair who've left the flock and have been hanging out on 8th ave in front of the Armory. cute. very noisy, but cute. -
Yes, there's a giant nest at the entrance to the Boneyard in that gothic gate on 5th Ave. They also like to nest at the Con Ed power plant. They've become regulars at the feeders in backyards in and around the neighborhood here.
-
Seems like there's been more high-spirited parrot activity around my place lately - lots of flying around and squawking. They must enjoy the mild weather ...
-
Get them while you can...once it turns cold, their range is reduced to Green-Wood Cemetery and the Con-Ed substation on 23rd/5th Ave where in some odd fashion they stay warm during the day.

Con Ed periodically rips their nests down from the electrical poles, so I'm wondering if they're getting smart and migrating.
I used to live out on Kings Hwy and would see the parrots every day. They make me happy. -
They don't migrate...really...new colonies, but they tend to stay put.
there's unfortunately been more poaching as of late than Con Ed catching & releasing them.

The most I have ever seen was at the Marine Park Wildlife Preserve. I think I am the only person who has ever gone there, though. Me and the guy that trims the hedges.

Ahhh, where's that?
Then my wife and I can be #3 and #4
-
I see them all the time at the Con Ed plant and the trees outside of it, where I've seen them breaking the branches off to build their nests. They are very cute and engaging to watch!
-
People across the way from me have a bird feeder so they hang around a lot. I wonder if the more native birds think they're big flashy foreigners ...
-
Aha! It was not that I am too tired and halucinating yellow-green birds in the back yard in November! They are real! (I saw them at Brooklyn College, but not here before this fall.)
Our cats like to watch them through the window as well! -
HUGE nest at Bklyn College. other big roost than Green-Wood Cemetery. Still have to go and check those "boyds" out "overthrares."
-
These guys have been waking me up every morning ... there's usually a gang of six or so of them out there squawking and hogging one of the bird feeders.
At least they wait til around 8am ... when I lived on the lower east side in 1985 I used to be awakened at dawn by a rooster. -
As a child, I was also often woken up by a rooster - really hated it. But it was in a small town and it was between the rooster, the dogs and the lawn mowers. Because it was really very important for my neighbors to have the grass cut by 8AM on a Sunday!
Anyway -the parrots are fun! I hope I can take a picture of them sometimes too!
