Creepy bobbling inflatables on St Marks
Last night I was walking home on St Marks between Underhill and Washington. There's a fenced lot on the north side of the block -- I think it's a car rental or U-Haul place or something? -- with at least a dozen of those big lighted nylon inflatable Christmas yard decoration thingies. They also had several similar ones out for Halloween a few weeks ago.
Anyway, go over there at night sometime when it's windy. It looks like they're alive and at some whacked-out inflatable rave. Creeeepy.

yea they've had these out for a few years now at halloween and christmas. i think it's nice they get into the spirit.

I like 'em, too! Just before Halloween, I was walking by, the inflatables were out and there was a HUGE full moon, low in the sky. It was one of those moments that I was pissed that I didn't have a camera.

I think the inflatables are adorable! I always get a kick out of them whenever I walk by.

Okay, I'll admit, I'm won over. They WERE eerie when it was windy the other night, though!
I went by just now to take some pictures. As I was angling my camera through a space in the fence the owner of the lot came out and said, "Come on in!" Startled the bejeezus out of me because I didn't realize they were open.
So I went into the lot and took a few photos. The owner was really nice; he said he's been doing decorations for 15 years, but just started doing the inflatable bobbler things a few years ago. Now he ends up buying new ones every year, so it just keeps getting more and more elaborate. He said folks are welcome to come by for photos and that some people even come take pictures for their Christmas cards. And he added that the kids at the elementary school down the street LOVE it!
Here are a couple of the pics I got:

Thos are frsh and I've always admired them during the holidays. I lso like the house on Sterling (I think, or maybe Park) that puts up tons of cobweb and whatnot on Halloween, too.

A house down the block from Deacon Blue has a large inflatable snow globe, complete with a twirling Santa and reindeer inside - it's kinda cool from a technical standpoint. I wonder if there's a little electric little motor turning 'em, or if it's vented air pressure from the inflating fan... :-k

amusingly, one of my best friends used to live in that house. her old windowboxes are still outside of the front, first floor windows. -

Between Grand and Classon, but much closer to Grand. They usually have it going in the afternoon/evening, but not in the morning. -

I live very close to the UHaul and those guys couldn't be nicer. I think steve is one of the guy's names. They have always made it feel homey.

Cute! I didn't even notice these when it was warmer.

Awesome photos, Apollonia. It reminds me of the gigantic demonic Santa Claus on 84th Street in Dyker Heights.
Howdy, Stranger!
