Aussie Bar on 4th — Brooklynian

Aussie Bar on 4th

So I just got back from the Aussie bar on 4th... Wish I had good reviews and I wouldn' t post anything up here unless I was treated properly. I went there to eat with one of my neighbors after shooting pool all afternoon to get dinner. Sat down and ordered 2 sandwiches and some beers. After about 1/3 of the way through my sandwich and I felt a little tickle in my mouth. I reached to my tongue and gripped the end of a 8 inch hair. As I pulled it out it unwrapped itself from around my teeth with chunks of food wrapped about the hair. My friend grabbed it and discarded of the hair. My friend the brought it to the attention of our waitress. The management came by and apologiezed a few times and a few different managers came by. They said our drinks would be taken care of. When the bill came nothing was different. Full price on the food which was barely touched on my side and full price on the drinks. Have to say very disappointed in the response to something that was unfortunate but still pretty damn gross in my book. Thats all I have to say about that place.

  • They also serve both Schooners and Pots in the same location. Heresy!

But they're showing The Ashes at the moment. Awesome!
  • Shoot, a bunch of us had a great time there the other night.
  • ack. that sounds gross, but we all know it happens occasionally.
I don't understand why you didn't say anything when the bill came, since you say they handled it properly to begin with...
seems to me *that* would be the way to go
instead of, you know, posting anonymously on a website.

I myself have had five or so hygenically sound and delicious meals there

If I was actually worried about the money I probably would have. But I am more concerned with the principle of the incident than getting my drinks for free. If you say you're going to do something do it, it shouldn't be left up to me the customer to remind them of what they said 10 min earlier.
  • I'm assuming you're taking about the sheep station?
I thought it was great, the beers tasted really fresh (maybe the taps haven't had enough time to get cruddy yet) and the salad and fish and chips were delicious. anyway, I cook all the time, and have gotten my own hair into food now and then. so i won't condemn a restaurant for it,
I'm sure much worse things happen that you can't detect....
  • I must side with shacked26. Justice was not served. The staff didn't handle it properly if they "promised" one thing and did another. How many times does poor shacked26 have to inform staff that the hair experience was unacceptable? Sure it was “just a hair,” but if shacked26 is paying shacked26’s hard earned money for food/service and shacked26 does not want to eat a hair than it is a big deal. Why should shacked26 have to start complaining about the bill immediately after complaining about the hair? Not everyone is comfortable with a ton of unpleasant confrontation in such a short time span. How many times does shacked26 have to kick and scream? Maybe the staff anticipated that shacked26 would be reluctant to say anything if they did not change the bill.

I'd like to thank shacked26 for posting this so I won’t be surprised if I get crappy service if friends ever drag me to this place.

One question though shacked26, what kinds of sandwiches does this place offer? Minus the hair was the sandwich good?
  • That was the worst part... The sandwich I was eating was fantastic! Tasted amazing until of course the massive hair. I was really bummed that I wasn't able to finish it and had to leave still hungry. And yes, I am talking about the Sheep Station, couldn't remember the name when I was posting orginally. Yes there are def. more disgusting things that can end up in your food and I cook a lot my self and can empathize with a hair ending up in a dish accidentally, but not handling the situation professionally as a manager is unacceptable.

Disagree. The best thing would be to remind them when the bill came and post anonymously on a website. This is the sort of thing I want to know about a local restaurant, along with your positive experiences, etc., etc.

If you believe it's an honest mistake and the restaurant was doing the right thing, that's fine--the post gives you enough information to decide that for yourself, or not.
  • Sorry to hear about the hair. I must say that I have eaten here a few times and the food was fine. However $8 for a Guinness is criminal. Why would a bar charge so much for a beer? I understand it is 20oz, but really $8?

I agree... I get pissy when people don't comp things they should in such situations... I would think its worth the $12 or so it to the restaurant to keep a loyal customer, esp. when its kind of a neighborhood spot.
