The cover of today's NYT has (to me anyway) a stunning story about the detention of Jose Padillo
this is a US Citizen, detained on US soil, not charged with anything but held in solitary confinement for three years. The photo is from a video of the sensory deprivation they outfitted him with on a routine move.
