Burger 67
Props to the owner for appreciating a good rare or medium rare burger. He gave me the thumbs up when I ordered mine medium rare, saying that he spends a lot of money to get good quality meat, which is better appreciated if only lightly cooked, at least according to him. I never heard that one before, but I do like my meat bloody.
The burger was good, although I got the Parisian before realizing I don't like mustard on my burgers. The blue cheese burger was also excellent. Unfortunately, the sweet potato fries were subpar. But I'd go back.

Yikes. I gotta have my burgers well done. I'll deal with the snickering from the waitstaff, I guess. What were prices like?
-
Just out of curiosity -- why do you have to get them well done? Ever actually tried them medium rare? Red meat really does taste different (better, in my opinion) that way. Not knocking your preference, just wanted to know.

The burgers are in the $7/$8 range, fries are in the $3 ballpark for a large, shareable order....I think the menu's up on Menupages.com -

I may be hallucinating this, but I remember hearing once that there was a health code thing about rare burgers now and it's harder to find places that will cook them rare. Sometimes if a place doesn't offer them rare, it's not because they won't, it's because they can't. -
I dislike a bloody center. I can do a pink center if the juices are clear, but if there is still blood inside it completely squicks me out.
Chefsgirl, what about you? -

The burgers are really really good, among the best I've had in the city. Better turkey burgers and veggie burgers would make me go there for more than an occasional indulgence. And the owners are very friendly and working so hard. -
Yeah, the service was really friendly and competent, which is truly high praise for downtown Brooklyn.
As for rare v. well done, I can't imagine having a real steak more heavily cooked than medium, and even that's pushing it. But with burgers I think you're more justified going as far as medium-well. Because it is ground meat, the texture in the middle of a rare burger can be gross, unlike a filet mignon, for example. Also, I was once told that while bacteria or e. coli stays on the surface and is therefore killed by searing in the case of steak, it gets mixed into ground meat and therefore it's better to heat the center of a burger up to at least medium. However, of course you can also eat meat raw (steak tartare, etc.) if you get it from a trustworthy source, and the guy at Burger 67 claimed he orders the "good stuff". Happy eating! -
I'd just like to add that Prime Rib should be hit over the head and brought directly to the table.
-
You know, I guess I've just always had them that way. It's gotten to the point of phobia; if I see red, I can't eat it. I've eaten a vaguely pinkish burger if I'm starving (it takes forever to cook the thick ones all the way through), but I don't taste the difference. Believe me, as a 'chefsgirl' I've gotten my share of knocks for the preference. I just love a charcoal-y, cooked-through beef taste, minus a ton of ketchup or sauces. Just a healthy slab of pickle and nirvana!

Got takeout the other night and was less than impressed. Food wasn't awful but, for a place to base its reputation on burgers, they should be much better/more distinctive. Better Burger in Chelsea is a good example. I liked the burgers at Mullame's better, and the variations are just as interesting. In addition, the sweet potatoe fries were limp instead of crispy. I'll likely give it another try, but don't have high hopes.

Hmm, I might expect limp fries during takeout/delivery, but not while dining in. I'll have to test-drive the burgers myself!

I agree on the sweet potato fries--they were very disappointing. I disagree about the burgers, though. I thought they were better than Mullame's (mullane's?). Oh, and speaking of Mullane's, they put American cheese on their nachos--that is unacceptable. -
these burgers are not good. they are not even close to best in the city. go eat a burger at Peter Lugers if you want a great burger ($8 bucks for lunch by the way). and yes, i too think Mullanes burgers are better, they certainly aren't worse than this place and Mullanes isn't all about the burgers like Burger 67. just my 2 cents here.
-
But how does it compare to local burgers like Bonnie's? Lugers is great and all but not exactly walking distance and not really available for dinner takeout.
-
I agree, it's kind of like saying, "You like Chez Oskar? Please, Per Se is much better." Not exactly a fair comparison.
-
I've eaten the burger at luger's. I've eaten the burger at Mullane's. I've eaten the burger at Bonnie's and I have to say, of the three, Bonnie's is the best.
While I haven't tried 67 Burger yet (67 burger...smoke joint...67 burger...smoke joint...smoke joint.) but will soon i would definitely do a comparision to Bonnie's as that's the burger I feel is the best in the area. (Not close but good enough to travel a bit for.) -
We were there for lunch on Saturday. I thought the interior of the restaurant felt too dark and industrial--almost like an unfinished warehouse, but not in the trendy way. Better lighting would help, as would some softness somewhere on the walls or cushions on the benches.
Turkey burger was mediocre. Sweet potato fries had potential, but were too limp. Next time, I'll go for the beef burger and the regular fries. I think this place has potential, and they were so nice in there that I'll definitely be back--but so far, it's not all that it could be. -
Bonnie's is great, but my favorites are Corner Bistro and Schnack. Still haven't tried Burger 67.
-
I refuse to eat at Schnack again. That dirty *ssed place gave me food poisoning. I went a while ago and I just can't do it again. I won't eat at Pioneer and I won't eat at Harding's other place on Smith Street now either.
-
Yikes, sorry to hear that. Schnack still has the tastiest burgers I've had 'round these parts.
I went to Burger 67 on Saturday night. Pretty good. Another nice choice in the LaFu area. -
I like Burger 67 so far - we shared an order of curly fries, which were very good, but some cold ones in the middle, so we asked them to pop them back in the fryer. My burger was great (I think I just got a regular cheeseburger). G's burger (western bacon concoction) apparently tasted delicious, but did fall apart a little due to the ingredients. I will definitely go back there again - but for now, I think Mullane's are *slightly* better.
In terms of burger cookedness - I usually say medium for both burgers and steaks BECAUSE most cooks will cook them with a little pink on the inside anyway (especially at French places) and that's how I want them. I don't want to say Medium Rare and end up with something that is still mooing. But, if you like your beef cooked through, more power to you, no judgment from this corner. -
I ate at 67 burger twice and was disappointed both times. The burgers just aint that great - and they're pretty salty for some reason. If all they do is burgers - they better learn how to do em well. I've never been disappointed by Burget Joint (in Le Parker Meridien) or Shake Shack (in Madison Square Park). Mitchell London Burgers and Cupcakes also does an excellent job - though I found the fries too limp last time I ate there. 67 Burger is not cutting it - which I find particularly disappointing as I live right around the corner and think that a burger place in this location could do a booming business if they were able to get it right and sustain it - as the places I mentioned seem to have done. Its really too bad since the people who own 67 seem to be quite nice - and they seem to be trying hard. Maybe they should've interned at Burger Joint to learn the ropes first.

I went to 67 last night and had a great old time. Burgers were good and service was fast and friendly. My biggest complaint was that my salad was completely drenched with dressing. I actually prefer the burgers at Choice, in the end.
-
best burgers are at SODA (on Vanderbilt) great meat, and bar-b-que'd and cheap!
-
I've eaten at 67 Burger 3 times and have been really happy each time. Had a turkey burger, a salad, and a sandwich, and though each was pretty delicious. For the price, I think it is a great addition to the neighborhood.
-
My family ate at 67 Burger last Friday night and thought it was great. The onion rings are fabulous. The burgers were tasty, the service was good and personable. In our opinion, a welcome addition to the neighborhood. I think the comments about the decor are too fussy -- have you all been to Sparky's? And although I love rare steak, I always order my burgers medium rare.

Ate at Burger 67 for the first time Thursday, and I gotta say, it was absolutely delicious. I went for the bacon-cheese burger (medium) with an order of regular fries. Excellent. One of the best burgers I've had in a looooonnnngggg time. I'm very happy they opened in Fort Greene. This neighborhood desperately needed it.

Overheard a chat about 67 Burger blog in a bar and felt obliged to put in my 2 cents... I am surprised and saddened by the amount of negativity. I ate at 67 Burger just another day. Regular burger with regular fries - great food! I ate there before, too. They did not give me any reasons to be disappointed at all. Quite on the contrary. The design is pretty cool, too. Who's to say what is trendy, but the light streamlined look is very nice. Most of all, I like the fact that the staff could pronounce my name correctly - that happens as often as Christmas, once a year, and typically at much more upscale establishments. Talking about upscale, why would one compare a neighborhood burger place with NYC's top steakhouse?
67 Burger is a great place. Welcome to the neighborhood.
