  • I had a feeling we were all getting worked up over nothing.

On a similar topic – since I'm not one for speculation – I will say that I do not know if Amin Indian on 7th Avenue near Union Street is closing for any amount of time. I only HOPE that it is closing.

When I walked by Amin around 10 PM on Sunday, 12/2/06, the staff was putting up newspaper on the windows to hide what was happening inside. The newspaper made me think that Amin might be renovating to justify more overcharging for watered-down, ketchup-based curries.

I’ve consistently had horrid service at Amin ever and would be happy to see their space become Manhattan’s Dimple (11 W 30th St, Phone: 212-643-9464) or Madras Mahal (104 Lexington Ave , Phone: 212-684-4010). Even a Baluchi's would be better than Amin.
  • I agree that Amin is terrible - i had a HORRIBLE meal at the brooklyn heights branch on montague. After such a traumatizing experience there, I vowed never to eat at an unfamiliar indian restaurant again (and Indian is one of my top 3 fave cuisines!)

I give a thumbs up to Bombay Palace on 7ave ave and 10th street across from the Tea Lounge. They're basically a ripoff of the Baluchi's chain in Manhattan, even down to the EXACT dish names and menu format of Baluchis. Anyone have a good local indian recommendation aside from those two?

And going back to the original post about Mr.Wonton, I'm pleased that all the closing talk was JUST talk.

    :D/
  • I like India Star on 5th &... Carroll?

As for Amin on 7th, they're awful, but they had a sign up that night that said they had a plumbing problem and would be open in a day or two.
  • I've only picked up take-out from India Star, where the guys behind the counter have always been very nice. I didn't write home to Mom about India Star's food, but I was happy with it at the time.

Speaking of potential closures, which local restaurant do you think will be the first to get busted by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene for serving us artificial trans fats? How will the City enforce this law? What do artificial trans fats taste, smell, and look like? For all I know, I eat them daily.
  • Gross. I just discovered the City's online Restaurant Inspection Information resource
    http://167.153.150.32/RI/web/Brooklyn.do
and am learning a bit too much about our local restaurants.
