Why isn't there a Starbucks in Fort Greene (for example, on DeKalb and Adelphi)? (Or on Fifth Avenue in Park Slope, for that matter?) Don't get me wrong--I'm not advocating either for or against a Starbucks. But it seems surprising that given the gentrification in the neighborhood, there isn't a 'bucks (or a few of them).

I lived in DC a few years ago and Starbucks was way ahead of the urban renewal curve. Is there community or business opposition, or has Starbucks just not wanted to come here?

    Well, there is one at Atlantic Center (actually 2: one on the ground floor and a satellite within Target). That's pretty central to Fort Greene. And there's Java Dave's on Lafayette and Cumberland, as well as Tillie's on DeKalb and Vanderbilt if you need a more immediate fix.

    Besides that, we've got Tillie's on Dekalb and Pillow on Myrtle.

    We don't need no stinkin' Starbucks.

    I actually rather like the Pillow Cafe on Myrtle.

    ....Although I've also been to the Connecticut Muffin on occasion...

    I can handle Connecticut Muffin. Their caramel latte is ridiculous. And it's not a chain you find on every corner. Although finding it on Myrtle Avenue was my first real sign that the times, they were a'changin!

    With me, it's the fact that I grew up in Connecticut, so there's a teeny little nostalgia thing going on.

    According to neighborhood buzz, Starbucks was very interested in the corner of South Portland and Lafayette but the owner (of the deli) wasn't.

    Don't forget about Marquette (sp?) on Fulton off South Portland for another excellent FG Statbucks alternative.

    I didn't know Marquet had good coffee. Just that their window pastries looked a lil dry-ish.

    Its really strong, I like it, give it a shot if your walking by. Some of the lunch items are good too. I'm not really a french pastry dude, so I can't comment on that.
