MERGED TOPIC: Moving to the Neighborhood (Franklin Ave.)
Hello all, this is my first post on this site. I got a studio apartment on Franklin Avenue between St. John's Place and Lincoln Rd. I got the place pretty much because it was the only apartment I could find at the time, it was within my budget, and because of its proximity to the train. My brother came over the see the place, and he freaked my mother out by telling her I moved into a bad neighborhood. I feel somewhat comfortable with the area, but I would like to hear insight from other people. How is this area. Is it safe at night? Etc...Thanks.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. -

Howabout "Crow Hill"? -
Hey Soul:
I just moved in about 6 blocks north of you on Dean a few weeks ago. The area seems fine to me... pretty quiet, but then I've never walked down Franklin that far. Usually I just walk west and then south... But my area seems nice enough =] I don't fear at all when I walk around. -
hey doctorj :P i love the dali stash hehe.

yes you are in crown heights
and you are in crow hill
and it is true that franklin can be a bit rough
especially that block
that said, it's an area that's undergoing a great deal of change
i recently moved just 3 blocks north of you and i am very happy to be here
you should read the crown heights board to get a feel for where you are -

Where are you from? Have you had much experience living in the "inner city"? Doesn't sound like your brother has. -
I'm 21. I've lived in Downtown Brooklyn for the past 4 years while going to school here. My brother is 10 years older than me and lives in upstate New York, so I kinda understand why he reacted the way he did. He's lived in the city before, but not in Brooklyn. I'm kinda having second thoughts now, but I guess I'll be aight.

btw, let me introduce myself:
i am the "meeting queen"
so i'll put this out there
you are in a small area of crown heights called crow hill
there is a community group: Crow Hill Community Association
that meets every 3rd tuesday of the month
if you want to get a taste of another side of the 'hood,
and meet your neighbors who have been working for years
to keep franklin and bedford on a course of growth and revitalization,
check it out
bring your brother, lol -
To neene: if I'm not exactly within the borders, can I still attend? =P I'm about a block west of Franklin, so I don't really qualify for Crow Hill...

Just to avoid any confusion, your place is between St. Johns Place and Lincoln PLACE. Lincoln Road is an entirely different n'hood. You've got to be careful here in Brooklyn. We've got tons of street names and a little mistake can have big consequences. God forbid your brother went to Lincoln Road. He might never return! -

you are more than welcome,
i actually brought this up at the last meeting
and while the CHCA has a legally designated area (they are a 501c3/non profit) to serve that lies between bedford & franklin roughly from eastern pkway to atlantic, people attend who live between rogers to the east & classon to the west
