Drug Store Experiences?
I recently have been using the CVS pharmacy for the first time and while the lead pharmacist has been nice, my overall experience has been horrible (esp with the young man on the weekend who seems to be the jr pharmacist? - the jeff spicoli of CVS). Anyone have anything GOOD to say about them.... or any of the other options in the south slope? Neergard looks a little sketchy but.... What about Ansonia on 7th?

I like Eckerd's on 9th St/5th Ave. (right near the CVS). It's clean, the lines are shorter, the stuff is actually ON the shelves....The Rite Aid (both locations) always have very long and slow lines. I've walked out several times.
Plus, I did a bit of comparison shopping one day and CVS had the highest prices EVERY time. -
Neergard is great, and reliably serving this community since before we were all born . . .

Thank god for mail-order plans!
But when the chips are down, and you need a small quantity fast, Neergaards is the place. Nice folks, no matter what the hour or location. -
Ansonia is wonderful. The pharmacists there are so nice and so helpful. They have been proactive many times in calling my doctor (and kids' doctor, husband's doctor) whenever there's been an issue about a prescription. They've really gone out of their way to be helpful many times.

Neergard and Ansonia are wonderful. So is the small pharmacy on the corner of Garfield? I use Neergard myself. I almost never go to CVS, Rite aid or any of those, there are too many small local businesses I prefer to support even if that sometimes costs a few bits more. Not to mention rite aid on 7th Avenue is possibly the most poorly run business in the neighborhood. Ugh.

OMG, that guy! Yes, he's awful. I've also found that some prescriptions are more expensive at CVS than at Neergard or Eckerd's. They also seem to have trouble keeping basic prescriptions in stock. I usually go to Neergard because they're open 24 hours. Neergard also delivers. -

If you want worse service, and a hellish interaction with an even more junior pharmacist, go to Rite Aid on 7th Avenue & 5th Street. Some immature jerks who don't care about the difference between Gas-X and beclomethasone are behind Rite Aid's counter, waiting to lose your Clozaril and switch your paroxetine with your neighbor's Glucotrol. There's a woman and one older man who are good pharmacists at this Rit Aid, but the young men there don't take their jobs seriously. -
Another vote for Neergaard, the one on 5thAve between 9th and 10th. If you drop off early enough they'll deliver. You do have to ask if something is in stock when you drop off.
That said if you don't have a prescription drug plan the pharmacy at Costco 3rd Ave and 39th St is the cheapest around adn you don't have to be a member to use the pharmacy -

Oh my. Thanks to everyone's advice. Went to Ansonia. Helpful, interested and CHEAPER than CVS by about $7 for 2 very expensive medications. -
Frank at Palma is sooo sweet and patient. I've let older people in front of me, just to watch his kind manner. . I also find the pharmacist at Prospect Gardens really, really helpful, especially when talking to my insurance people and everything. I didn't check prices--as for me, customer service in this area is invaluable!

The Rite Aid on 5th and 10th is probably the worst pharmacy I have ever used. They ALWAYS mess up your prescription. They ALWAYS give you attitude. They are ALWAYS slow.

Amen. That is SO TRUE. The worse one behind the counter is a young man. I thought I was the only customer he gave attitude to. I get the feeling he hates working there.

i think they all hate working there, bc the only person I ever found polite was (i believe) an Eastern European girl.

Ansonia is fantastic. The people are really nice and helpful. Health Aid Pharmacy, next to Methodist (291 7th Ave--7th St and 7th Ave) is great!
Friendly folks and they send you a letter a week before your refill is due.
AND they deliver on refill call-ins!
Though they can be busy for a walk-in being so close to the hospital

i'm right there with you, hands down. not only do they deliver, they'll come pick up your paper rx, bring it to fill it, then bring back the drugs.
