    yes ma'am
but I *liked* the seitan at Stir It Up, and have not tried it at the Chinese place on Union and 6th that everyone likes...
Have YOU been to Red Bamboo? Did you give up on opening a place, and is there a single fekking one you can recommend?

Try their vegetarian Spicy Sesame Chicken. So good.

The "place" is Hunan Delight and, yes, the Sesame Chicken is to die for. Same goes for their Moo-shu vegetarian chicken.
  • Can't wait to try it, Hunan Delight that is. Spicy sesame veg chicken sounds yummy. And the Stir place, too. Always good finds around here.

Went to Red Hot for the first time recently. The Vegetable Tso's Chicken is pretty good. I have NO idea what this particular mock chicken is made from but it's tasty.

Chef Lady, thanks for bringing up the debate on processed mock vegetarian foods. I think it's a good point. I wish I knew what all these mock products were made from at each and every restaurant. I would certainly support the ones that use no/less processing. Also, I don't think it's hurting anyone that you're advertising your services here, rather discreetly, too. Small business people need all the support they can get and I would say vegan chefs especially.

The two things I did put up links for are FREE. They are community building events that I have organized. I participate in these discussions as a Park Slope neighbor, not a business woman. I suppose that I am lucky because my career happens to be my hobby.

My boyfriend and I struggle to find good restaurants in the neighborhood. I like watching this thread to find out new options that you guys like. I order Red Hot vegetable soup when I'm sick. It's terrific, but I think there is too much tofu for my liking.

Watana Siam (7th btwn 13/14) has some excellent seitan thai dishes!! Love the green curry!
  • If it offends you that I have my signature on my messages, I'll gladly remove it.

I think that knowing your a chef lends authority to the interesting information you provide on mock meats. (I'm not a vegetarian, I just like to learn things about food.) It seems to me that not cooking foods you find unhealthy makes sense and should not invalidate your opinion of those foods.

Now, can someone explain $10 beans and rice to me?

Red Bamboo is ok if you avoid the specials and if you like fake meats. But honestly, as a vegan, I take what I can get. But meat eaters seem to like it. I just went to Stir It Up tonight! It was good but I like the Islands better. No plantains?!

My favorite seitan is at Rice on 7th, it's called "tofu spices" but it's seitan and it is sooo good. The best vegan food is probably at Candle 79 but that's in Manhattan and way too expensive.

Does anyone remember Organica? It was on 7th avenue but closed like 7 years ago. And going even further back (like 15 years back, wow), there was a place called Who's on 7th. I think it was across from Key Food. They'd give you a pile of lentils and a pile of brown rice and you would like it.
