gym closed all next weekend
I hate to bring up the Slope gym as it's been a thread several times here but I am annoyed that they are closed all of next Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for an "outing". They also closed at 5 pm today. And now word is that the manager thinks it needs to go "corporate" as in less family oriented and less personal. What?! Oh yeah, and there is talk that people are getting fired left and right and that the staff is walking on eggshells. Some of the kids got in trouble for studying at the front desk.

Dear GiGi,
As the owner of the Slope Health & Fitness, I was interested to find out that you had posted this message. That's why, I decided to visit the site and personally respond to this comment.
1) I am giving my employees a free ski trip up in the mountains as a reward for a wonderful year and how hard they have all worked. If that is a crime, then I am GUILTY!!! Everyone needs a break to let loose and relax.
2) I opened the Slope as a family affair, and I am keeping it as such. I do not know where you keep hearing about us going corporate. These rumors are so annoying.
3)If and when people are let go, it is because they have not fulfilled the requirements of the positions they were hired for.
Please be made aware that we give them ample notice for discretions, and give them ample opportunity to fulfill their job requirements. It pains us, me, whenever we, I, have to let someone go.
4) As for people walking on eggshells, I am not aware that be required to do the job you were hired for is a bad thing.
I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions that you may have about us, and me.
My family has served the Park Slope Community since 1929, and I am the 3rd generation of Kotsonis' to make my home here.
Thank you for your time everone. -

I am so glad that you responded! I, for one, had no idea that you existed. Thank you. I rather hear it all directly from you and appreciate the clarification. We don't like the rumors either but there have been lots for a while now, and quite honestly, they are coming from other customers who claim to have heard it from management. I don't even know who management refers to. I know I'm taking a risk by saying that. You might want to make sure you are all on the same page. Of course I don't mind rewarding your workers whom we are quite fond of, but some of us only have a chance to work out Friday through Sunday. Not sure what you mean by being interested that I posted this message. I'm assuming that either someone alerted you to it or that you know who I am. FYI, your customers like the "family affair" and that is why there are some reactions when we hear anything along the lines of corporate. You must admit that there is so much turn over lately that one has to wonder. Hence, the "walking on eggshells" comment that has been heard. In this context, it means afraid of getting fired. That is the impression that is conveyed. The bottom line is that maybe you need to get more involved and be the one to respond here as you've done. -

Dear GiGi,
Thank you for letting me know what is going on. I agree we should all be on the same page. That is really what this past year has been about. I've been trying to get everyone on it.
I don't want people to be afraid of being fired. However, they should realize that they cannot take advantage of certain situations anymore. This is what primarily caused the firing of our previous fitness director. A sweet, nice man that they took advantage of and unfortunately it cost him his job.
I am sorry that I am not down there enough, so that people can see that I actually exist. I will try to remedy that in the new year.
I hope that you are enjoying your experience at The Slope, and please let me know how I can better it.
Thank you.
Respectfully,
Nicholas George Kotsonis -

<<Dear>>
I actually think it's the best gym around, have been loyal to it (even in other postings where I griped), and don't want it to become something weird or impersonal. That's really where my gripes are coming from. I fully support family owned businesses too. I like the idea of you making more of a precense. I appreciate the tone of your message. Sometimes the tone of the things I write don't always come across the way I intended them too. -

Will they be closed during the days between Christmas and New Years Eve too? If that's the case, you should get your December money back. -

Dear raw,
We will be open during those days. This trip, and closure dates, is only for the weekend of the 15th. Otherwise normal hours still apply.
Hope this answers your concerns.
Thank you.

is this a joke? clients are paying slope health and fitness center so the people who work there manager and all get to go on a ski vacation? I’ve never heard of a gym where you pay the manager and his workers to work out for you. why can’t they hire temps to keep the gym open during the workers' three day vacation? why should clients who pay to work out get locked out?

excuse me grumpy, everyone has been polite and considerate, and here you come mr/ms. no manners. I am happy that the owner took the time to explain things to the members. seems to me that you are just a shill/shrew that wants to cause trouble. Are you a member? if not, then f#$% off. If you are, then talk to the management about your problem. I am sure that they will resolve it for you. This place has always been civilized. A welcome change from the ill mannered animals that exist elsewhere. -
A (roughly) 10% reduction in services (3 days out of 31) should be accompanied by a 10% reduction in monthly fees.

Subject: club will remain open
Dear Members & Non-members,
I was also concerned about us being closed that weekend.
That is why, I am happy to announce that the club will remain open that weekend, but with different hours.
Please speak to reception for more details.
I now wish to discuss the tone that these posts can take.
Garfield Girl, I appreciate your patronage and your loyalty. I feel, however, that we should not be rude to others who express their opinions. The guest, who it would be nice if they revealed themselves for decency, had a valid concern. Be it the tone was a bit hostile. However, there are those people who are obsessed with money and think in purely materialistic terms.
By the way, guest, this trip is coming out of my personal funds, and is separate from the clubs resources.
I hope that we can continue, in the future, to have proper and calmer dicussions in these blogs.
Thank you for your patronage and understanding.
Respectfully,
Nicholas George Kotsonis
