Gas Siphoning?!
So...
Last week, I filled up the car with gas.
The only driving I did all week was to Williamsburg and back twice, then moved the car twice for alternate-side.
Went to move the car the next day... I was running on vapors. Hmm.
Filled up the car with gas again.
Drove to Williamsburg and back, then moved the car once for alternate-side.
Went to move the car the next day... I was running on vapors. Double hmm.
I guess you can see where I'm going with this...
So, I figured that either:
1) anti-gasolite black matter exists in Williamsburg
2) someone in PH has been syphoning off my gas
My fears were verified when I went ot the AutoZone on Atlantic and picked up a $12 locking gas cap (our old Volvo had none... who steals gas in Sweden?) and the clerk asked me "Having problems with someone stealing your gas, too? I must have sold a hundred of those this week..."
So yeah. Beware the Petty Gas Siphoner! Gas prices being as they are, it seems this is happening with alarming frequency in the PH.
Anyone else had this problem or do all you worthless car-owning hipsters park in garages or have luxurious factory-installed gas-cap/door locks? 8)

didn't the british govt use something similar against anti-nuke protesters in the 70s? do you think that will really help locate missing liquids? -

totally! that is, assuming that the perpetrator isn't wearing his AFDB!
you don't need a whole beanie. just put it over the red light in your smoke detector and hang a colander over the head of your bed, just in case a late night attack comes. people are so dumb inventing whole beanies. -

I sold my car the minute I moved to New York. ("Sold" meaning "gave to my boyfriend at the time for basically nothing." Stupid.) I miss having a car

But I would be paying more in insurance and gas than I pay in rent, and drive it, what, on the weekends? Not worth it to me. -

being able to go on weekend roadtrips and move massive amounts of stuff (its a station wagon) is priceless to me. my love for the city tends to be vaguely proportional to the amount of times i can get away from it in a year

Looks like the trend is going nationwide:

Excerpt:
Sky-high fuel prices are spawning an uptick in sales of locking gas caps amid scattered reports of siphoning thefts around the nation.
AutoZone, the nation's largest auto parts chain, sold more than 10,000 locking gas caps last week, up more than 60% over a typical week. "That was a pretty big spike," says AutoZone spokesman Ray Pohlman.
