Bars In Crown Heights

Tavern on Nostrand, on Nostrand (obviously) right off eastern parkway ..soon to be Saje although it's currently BYOB...
-
is it a bar with good beer or a byob restaurant. It sounds like the latter...
-
Why do you care? You were the one who was bragging about how great Park Slop is.. and that there is no other draw to CH than real estate prices.. so you better just stay where you are....
-
don't be hostile bojolais. I'm trying to do something in your neighborhood and you should be gracious enough to see that instead of attacking me and falsely contradicting my stated reasons for a question I asked two weeks ago. It doesn't seem like there are any bars though based on the response.
What about it Crown Heights? Are there any places a group of people can go for beers? -
Tavern is a restaurant with a bar. The bar is cool to hang out at, although I'm not sure of the extent of the beer selection. They have live jazz on Sundays. I've hung out at the bar a couple of times, including once when I had the place to myself (I think it was a Tuesday or Wednesday) and one Friday when it was standing room only, so take that for what its worth.
There are a couple of other bars on Nostrand, but the only other place I've been in is Cafe 400. Its huge and is great to watch sports as it has 3 or 4 tvs including a big screen that takes up one wall. I've only been in during the week when its pretty quiet. I hear they have comedy and kareoke on the weekends and that it gets crowded on the weekends.
There are a couple of other places that I can think of (Starlight on Nostrand and Brooklyn Exquisite on Rodgers) but I haven't actually been in either of those although other folks on the board have I think.
Sorry I can't be of more help, but I do most of my drinking in the house

Excellent, thanks, if anyone has cross streets and how close they are to the choo choo
-
How could anyone forget to mention the Starlight Lounge on Bergen and Nostrand?
-
Someone did mention it above.. I believe the Starlight is a gay bar and has disco nights that some posters have raved about..

Indigo is supposedly moving from Vanderbilt to Franklin & Dean (not sure when or exactly where)--anyone heard anything? There seems to be some work being done on a storefront on Franklin between St. Marks and Prospect--east side of the street in the middle--nice tin ceiling. Wondering what that might become....anyone know?

Two new bars are in the works: Saje has applied for a beer and wine permit, not technically a bar, in the same ballpark.
More interestingly, Secrets is about to open at 724 Nostrand bet. Park Place and Prospect Place. This place is huge with a separate dining area and separate bar with dance floor and large backyard. It was two years under renovation, and is completely high quality from top to bottom. When I last spoke with the owners, they were waiting for a sign-off on the last of 13 different permits from the city. Any wonder why there aren't more renovated spaces in Brookyn?
This should be a very cool place to have a beer or margarita or whatever you're into. -

a. 100% awesome for Indigo to recover
b. Krohn, I love your new avatar and am strangely envious.
c. Starlite! Starlight! Friendly to all, the owner was posting here -- search up that thread!
d. And can a bar named "Secrets" be anything BUT a gay bar?
o my people......
e. Steve, dood, I thought the same thing as bojolais. just SAYIN' -

I think the hold up with indigo is the shooting that happened with the landlord and the onwer of the bar's friend. -
Brooklyn Exposure on Bedford and St. Marks Avenue.

I'm surprised at you Pitu, I would have expected more. If you go back to the original thread and for that matter this one, I was very honest about what I was asking. I was even sensitive about it because apparently there are some very immature people on the CH forum who can't handle my wanting to compare hoods for my own reasons.

And then there are more people who suggested places and answered my original post and this one.
More to the point, I hang out in many different neighborhoods, and most I wouldn't want to move to for one reason or another. This describes nearly everyone on this board I imagine. With that in mind, the criticisms have been narrow minded and provincial. -
FWIW, I didn't think you were being weird asking this, Steve, and am actually happy you're interested in exploring CH via the bar scene.
Cafe 400 is pretty quiet on weekdays, but the food and drinks are good - though the booze is a bit pricey unless you're there on a Monday through Wednesday.
Ripple, which is right across the street from me, and is in CH, always has bar specials. I'm starting to change my opinion of the place - used to try to love it but always hate it, but now feel like it's actually tolerable and may actually have nice, cool people hanging out. It's on Washington btwn Sterling and St. Johns - about 3 blocks from the E.Pkwy 2/3.
Starlight is awesome. It is more of a club on weekends, but during the week it is a regular bar. The crowd and ownership is all gay - and historically it is a very significant bar, both in that it was the first gay bar in Brooklyn and is also (I think) the first black-owned gay bar in NYC.
Those are the bars I've been to in CH. I keep wanting to do a CH bar crawl - would be really fun, I think. -
Saje, while not a 100% bar, will be featuring craft/micro beers on tap. Paul has good taste, and does not want to offer the same standard brews everyother mediocre bar in town does. I'm pretty sure that he will have about 6 lines, and rotate between breweries, and seasonally as well (in addition to wine... i'm not sure if he's going to have liquor; i haven't asked).
it'll be nice to have good beer, in addition to everything else that is top notch at saje, right across the street. -
What's up with Liga Sports Club on St Marks and Lincoln? It seems to have strange hours.
