Where can a guy get his curly hair cut?
The curly hair on my head.
I haven't paid someone to cut my hair in about 10 years. I've just had friends do it, and no pun intended, they're just not cutting it.
I want to go somewhere but I don't really have a clue how it works. When I used to go when I was younger I had real short hair and would just go tto he barber, but I don't think that will do now that I have longer grown man hair and require grown man hair styling.
I've found some salon recommends on this board, but I want to get a recommendation from some fellas who have tried different places in our 'hood. I don't want something fancy, preferably inexpensive, but good enough to be using more than just clippers.
Also, do you need reservations at a salon? Is there tipping? How much is a man cut? Do you need to describe what you want or can they just work some magic on you? What if they stab me with the scissors, on purpose or by accident? JK, playing up the anxious vibe, but seriously...

I had a brief stint as a salon receptionist. If the place is fancy, walk ins are less likely be accommodated. Most reasonably priced places can hook you up pretty fast as long as it isn't some sort of weird bum rush to the salon moment.
Yes, you should tip. Tip for everything, including hair dressers.
A cheap men's haircut can go for $10 at a barber shop but with a fancy salon, men's haircuts start at around $40. So pick and choose. In any case, I actually have a thing for curly hair (have it myself and choose to self-maintain as well) and I wouldn't advocate you cutting your hair at all. But that's just me. :P -
Thanks for the advice. I know this seems to be a hot topic right now, but what's an appropriate tip for a cut? 10%? 15%?
And I'm with you on keeping it long, I just need some skilled hedging. A pro's touch. -
I'm not sure if you're black or white, but if you're a brotha (or somewhere in between), I recommend the Dominican Barber on Washington ave. between St. Johns and Sterling. I see alot of guys coming out of there looking really good.

I agree. if you have curly, kinky hair, this is a good place. and to see "samples" of the "product" just come by sometime tomorrow afternoon - you'll see tons of men waiting to get their hair cut and walking out post-cut. nice stuff.
Not sure where non-curly,kinky haired men can get a cut around here - last time my dad needed a hair cut in NYC, I just took him somewhere near where I work.
