the Key Food 8-year-old cashier: anyone saw him?

He's the managers son, I've seen him work a couple times. The hilarious thing is that he's one of the most efficient check out people they have! He's really good at it! Usually one of the regular cashiers will bag while he's working.

which key food is that?

Maybe, being 8 yrs old, he still has a bit of joie de vivre, in comparison to the other checkers, who appear to have had all personality and life drained from their bodies.

I know in NC where I'm from the labor laws are WAY different the child is a son or daughter of the owner or manager of the store. Its legal for wayyy younger kids to work in those types of jobs (not working with food/knives/heat etc) I don;t know about NYC but I would imagine its the same, esp considering the amount of family owned businesses.
I think you can get a worker's permit at age 12 for certain types of work (I remember getting one at that age).

dw438, I don't know of any limitations by the credit card companies on the age of employees that use the system. I do know that most technology these days is designed to be operated by someone with the basic skills of a 3rd-4th grader. McDonalds started leading this trend years ago when they moved from regular cash registers, to registers with the product names on buttons, to buttons with the pictures of food on it. The idea is that for a lot of these jobs the workforce has limited education or in some cases limited language abilities, so they try to make the process as simple as possible.
