I'm sorry, but not even prepared foods. There is a health club in the basement of the building, and a dance studio on the 2nd floor. The store must have a business that will not attract vermin of any kind.
  • Good for you George. Anything there but another bank. And we've got enough places for food on 7th Avenue.
  • This board's obsession with Gorilla Coffee is very strange. The coffee is not that good. Add in the piss-poor attitude of the employees, and the annoying squatters who never leave the tables, and it is an overall lame experience. IMHO.

Bah! Gorilla is by far the best coffee I've had in NYC. Or, maybe I should rephrase: Gorilla is the most west coast-like coffee I've had (which, to me, is the best kind).
  • you know what we could really use, another real estate office!
  • I've had a cheese burger at bam, the automat in the east village. damn good cheeseburger, too.

I was just going to say that! Or what about another kids store?

Wasn't that space formerly the Purity Diner anyway?

I agree. I've given the coffee so many tries and I think its terrible. It always tastes horribly burnt to me. I even tried it in iced coffed form...twice, and I had to throw it out both times.

I picked up some coffee from the small shop on 8th St off 7th Ave. I had the "Joe's Blend" and their "Mocha Java". Both were excellent.

  • Subject: 7th ave

    how about a housing works?

seems as though all the good antique/vintage stores are down on 5th, but something like this up on 7th could be great.
  • new boutique to sell my work!

I live for coffee and am a caffeine addict, but Gorilla coffee is way too strong for me -- I was shaky and jittery for an hour the one time I tried it. I went in one day during the heat wave we had last summer and the place was un-airconditioned, and stifling, yet every seat was taken by a sweaty, miserable-looking person staring zombielike at their laptop screen. It was creepy.
  • Does anyone know whether Cinematheque is moving to a new location? Or is it gone for good?

    It's gone for good.
The owner now owns the Blue Pearl Restaurant around the corner on Union Street.

Make that the "Black Pearl" restaurant. I think they saw the writing on the wall for DVD rental shops, probably a smart move. NetFlix is eating those places alive.
  • Makes sense, but it's sad. They had such a good selection. Guess it's time to bite the bullet and get Netflix myself...
  • Personally, I'd love to see a small Apple store in that location. How nice would it be to have a little Genius Bar in Brooklyn finally? Of course I realize that the space is probably way too small for that...

that would be java joe's and i have to put in a quick word against it here.

stopped in a couple of days ago, they had a decent selection and we bought about $20 worth of tea. then i asked if i could use their bathroom and i don't recall whether they said they didn't have one or it was out of order, but they clearly had one--it was just to the left of the counter--and just weren't going to let a customer use it.

unfortunately i'd already paid for the tea, but i'm never going back there again. there are too many decent coffee/tea shops in the hood to put up with a rude one.

Not even vermin of the two-legged variety? That's gonna be hard.
